Weed Gets New Laying Hens!

Due to the COVID-19 I wasn’t able to get new laying hens this spring. It seems everyone staying home realizing the world was going to end bought up all the hens. I’m really PISSED OFF at my local feed store where I have been buying my supplies for the last 3 years as I was in there 2 times in February and 2 times in March asking them to put me on the order list. They just kept saying to come back in 2 weeks we don’t know what we are getting A DAM LIE I’D SAY! Called back on the phone a week after my last visit SORRY THEY ARE ALL SOLD! Bunch of liars. Seems they must of had a list way before February. 
fast forward to this past Friday I got a call from a friend “ you still looking for chicken?” I really wasn’t looking for chickens this late in the season but I decided to call the guy to put my name on the list for spring 2021. 
when I spoke to the fellow he had brown egg layers and blue egg layers. Well I’m a sucker for those blue eggs and besides what kind of a Papa would I be if I didn’t have blues eggs for the granddaughters to gather out of the nest box lol. The picture shows the 2 brown hens that lay brown egg and the white hens with grey splash lay the blue eggs. Eggs will arrive in 3-4 weeks.

You've been trying to lay some chick at the local store,  but despite your money you can't get laid (I understand this through personal experience),  but you found a chick with blue eyes and shes expecting in 3-4 weeks ?

I remember offering to fertilise @AthenA's eggs, but she rejected me too? guess I'm not cut out for livestock ?

My children mostly, but I love the fresh eggs that we get from them. We lost another one today... she died during the night. We noticed that it was coming, but she seemed better last night, so it was a surprise this morning. There's only one left now here.

Weed, your chicken look nice and I'm glad that you finally got some more !

Aw!, that's sad, as I said I know nothing about this subject but you may need a new cock?, I can lay my hands (well fingers actually) on one of the finest cocks in the world. A fresh new cock may be the stimulus needed for your household, think hard about it, sorry no pictures my telephoto lens is missing.

Now being serious I don't think they do well unless there is a bunch of them as they feel threatened and stop laying. You need at least another two for harmony and their well being.

Thanks folks! The white ones (Azure Blues) are quite flighty, very skittish. The browns are more laid back. The browns are production birds and I see their upper beaks have been cut to stop pecking. I would not have ordered them with the beaks cut. I let my chickens free range, they can catch and eat all the bugs, worms, they love grass and weeds. This makes for a far better healthier bird and WAY BETTER EGGS.

I'll post pictures when the eggs start.

Yes they love to be outside with papa. The problem is my daughter and wife! Paranoid about germs and bird poop in the field lol. I had to order a portable fence/net to contain them to certain areas heaven forbid one of the ladies would step in chicken poop lol! here is the link to the netting
