Well today i put the finishing touches to my first ever pc build,It all started from getting pissed off with my old pc being very tempremental so i thought f**k it i,m gonna build myself one which was a big ask from someone who up to 12 months or so ago had never owned a pc.Anyway that was the target so i set myself a budget of £1000 and so the quest began, trawling sites for parts reading countless reviews, watching endless amounts of installation videos which paid off enormously because by the time i was ready for putting it all together it were as though i knew where everything should go..........So for you folks thats thinking of building your own thats never done one before....DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!.

My original ideas were to build around the AMD Phenom 1100T 6 core and use SSD's but when i saw the price of the drives i soon changed my mind......lot of money small capacity,so i decided to go the RAID 0 route and get 2 500 Gb WD Blues plus a 1Tb WD Black.I also lowered the spec on cpu to the 1090T which saved me a few quid and im not losing that much performance compared to the 1100T.Mobo,i chose the Asus crosshair IV formula, nice board looks the biz only thing is you cant sli nvidia cards which is a shame cos i got the EVGA GTX570 and would of loved to have two of those rigged up,fantastic card.Add to that a Cooler Master Storm Scout case and XFX 750W black edition power supply and some GSkill Sniper ram,Cooler Master V8 cpu cooler and a couple of extra fans and i was good to go.Total cost, not much change from £900 /$1400US and overall quite easy to assemble,so i am a very Happy Chappy.....Some pics

Looks great Wildbill,i,m building a pc for myself right now, also  based on an AM3 setup but i,m choosing the quad core phenom 980who,s running on 3,7 GHZ,for cooling i,m waiting on the corsair H100 fluid cooling series,my PSU is a corsair TX750 and the case is an Thermaltake Element V,the first HDD is an SSD (OCZ agility 2 from 90 GB) only to install windows 7 and COD  (lol)

graphic card i,m not sure of if i will take an nvidia or a radeon.

My motherboard is an Asus  with a graphics card on board ,which i,m gonna do with within the first months ,because of the money, but it,s gonna be replaced, well keep me informed please about the specs and give my regards to Mrs Bill.

Well done wildbill.  Looks very nice and the cable management looks pretty clean as not to restrict air flow and that's a big frigg'in CPU cooler too.  Should have no worries of your processor over heating.  All in all, nice investment.  Should keep you going for a while and looks like you got room for another vid card if you choose to later on.

Well its been running all day at 3.8Ghz without a hiccup, ive only upped the multiplier to 19 x 200 bus so far....dont know a great deal about overclocking so thats my next task......More learning!!!lol,The build itself took around 2/3 hours which wasnt too bad, what took the most time was the cable sleeving i did, having to remove all the connectors....very fiddly but worth it in the end, thats probably why i chose the case i did because i could manage the cables quite well.Only regret is the mobo,i could of waited and got the Crosshair V which will support the new 8 cores from AMD and is crossfire and sli compatable.Overall im very pleased with it and glad i decided to build one myself,so if ya thinking of building one.......DO IT!!!Ive only run a test with performance test7.0 and im not up to speed with what it all means so i dunno if its good or mediocre, i'll let you guys tell me........

Not sure but I would run that setup past a Structural engineer looks like the CPU cooler mass might disconstruct the CPU structure And after the total build you might notice the right hand corner of his gaming rig support system needs to have a screw recessed a corner sanded and at least 5 coats of lacquer on it. So after an in depth look at the system I would have to say he runs a great risk of his CPU fan fudging his CPU causing his support system to fail causing at the very minimum cable stress. All in all for a first timer not bad. Be careful out there if that were to fail on an inside corner you might get purple penis symdrome and only wierd girls like that.

even the temps look pretty cool to me...

not sure about the Vcore though...1.415 V maybe you dont need this much to run it stable at 3.8 GHZ 24/7

could lower the temps even more..the Vcore suggested by the MOBO while OCing are too much most of the time

but I am not this much an AMD guy

if you need some help with this ask Dread of our Crysis Adminteam

he is the man with this AMD OC stuff...just look at his PC LOL

and he will be happy to help you with this...I am sure Cool

Great Job Wildbill!!!

I built a very similar rig a few months back with the 1100T. Same mobo though, AND you may be happy to know that you CAN sLi Nvidia cards.. or crossfire Radeon cards on the Asus crosshair IV formula. I run two Radeon 5870's in crossfire myself, but I have a buddy with the same mobo and the 1090T that runs two Nvidia GeForce GTX 470's in sLi just fine. Here is his CPU-Z : http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1571309   It is a bit of a process, cause the chipset isn't 'set up' for it.. but it can be done. The following link is a good read on it if you are interested:

http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/670810-howto-sli-non-sli-motherboard-gtx5xx.html

I did a LOT of reading and research too, and have had a blast playing with this rig. That particular forum has a lot of good info on the 1090T and the Crosshair formula IV board.

Have FUN!!!!

PS.. this is a link to the thread with my rig. A pic and final specs on page 2. :)

edit: and BTW my tower is aluminum not steel....it stays cooler and is easy to cool if it does get hot, but it never has lol....
