K some of u might know this already but i've decided to quit smokeing. I haven't had a smoke in about a week what gets me is it's not just mentally craveing a cigarette that's difficult it's the physical aspect of it my hands are twitchy and i'm like in a daze 85% of the time. I have trouble focusing and concentrating and I'm a litle irritable. I have the irish temeperent. scottish stuborness and of course my brittish sarcastic wit which doesn't help matters. after 20 yrs of smokeing I decided to quit for the sake of my chldren mostly and no matter how bad I want 1 I won't give in. i like to thank all the guys who have given me advice on quitting smokeing especially DADA who suggested I try eating digestive cookies, T_Rat n Corpse and especially my bud BOOMER . I also want to appologise to JOHNNY QUEST I made a comment about the cartoon show I"M srry man felt bad about it right after I said it.  Just bear in mind when your kicking a 20 yr habbit you dont think right and say or do things you dont't mean to.

p.s. does anyone know how long the withdrawls from smokeing last

cheers n thank u My XI bretheren

How long does withdrawel last? The rest of your life. You'll always crave a cigarette but as time goes on, you can more easily ignore it.

Doing this for your children is the best motivator there is. Hang in there. The first week is relatively easy; and so is the second. For me, it was always the third week that did me in. Bottom line, quitting smoking is purely a question of willpower. If you WANT to quit, you will.

Anytime you feel the craving is going to get the best of you, got for a walk, or go hug one of your kids. You CAN do it!!!

I quit 3 and a half years ago . I still would like to have a smoke at times but it passes  quickly now. Remember it only takes 1 to get started  again and maybe 1 more to kill you or your kids.

just put 10 dollars in your wallet and look at it every time you want a smoke...you save hundreds a year from not smoking...i am kind of a hypocrite on the subject. Have quit and started again...but my reasoning is kinda skewed. I know when i quit i thought about the money alot and it helped me tremendously...good luck jack.

Welcome to the club. After the Rangers win the World Series tonight I am giving up all tobacco products also. I did this before about 6 years ago, all you need to do is adjust your daily activities. Change things up so you don't think about it.

Good luck.

i did the same thing union... I quite cigs about a week ago. 3 days the hardest.. make it 5 days you are good. Started to quite about two weeks ago but cheated and reduced quite a bit.. down to 3 cigs.. so it made it easier. I recommend cold turkey.. no patch shit as you still have to deal with that later. And the dreams will drive you mad.

20 years is a long ass time... here is me with my first cig at age 3.. always thought I was 4 but my mom corrected me.. she was pissed at my aunt. I became a reg sneaky smoker by age 5 and got busted many times. Age 12.. I was smoking all the time. 41 now.. so time to quite.

this sound gay but my aunt wanted to see me choke but I only knew how to blow.. not suck.

quitting smoking is the best thing you guys can do for your health.... Keep up the hard work and soon you guys will realize, "Hey I can breath 10 times better now than I did while smoking during a work out or other activities."

I smoked for 17 years Union.  Like you, I also quit for my kids.  I didn't have the willpower to force myself to go outside the house to smoke (sitting at the computer without a cigarette literately killed me).  Hardest damn thing I ever did.  But - last month made 5 years without a cig for me.  Hang in there and remind yourself often of the reason(s) you're quitting.  You'll make it bro.

6 DAYS DUDE!

Jackk you have already beat the physical aspect of the withdraws from the nicotine, the rest of what you battle is the mental side of it, which I won't candy coat it for you..... its the fucking hardest part (at least for me it was). I chewed gummy bears and gum until my jaw felt like it was gonna snap off BUT after about 8 or 9 days it got easier and easier...... after a month of not smoking it fucking gagged me when I smelt it! I said to my inlaws I can't believe I walked around STINKING LIKE THAT for all those years and never noticed how bad I smelt because of it... My daughter was about 2 1/2 and said daddy can I smoke outside too? It broke my heart and that was the last cigarette I ever smoked! My daughter is turning 15 in 10 days.... I have never felt the need or desire to EVER smoke again I will NEVER EVER SMOKE AGAIN! After 24 years of smoking and almost 12 1/2 years of being smoke free I feel great, I hardly ever get sick anymore with colds or flu type symptoms, it took years before I started gaining any weight at all. AND MOST IMPORTANT I can hug my kid without her wanting to puke from the smell of it!

I hate the stench of them, I can smell their nasty asses 500 ft away up or down wind lol...

Most important for you though, if you drink booze of any kind, don't do it again until you know for sure you have lost your desire to smoke-this is no joke! Drinking and smoking just freaking go hand and hand, when I drank, I smoked twice as much as normal!

I'M FUCKING PROUD OF YOU MAN!

Its truly the hardest habit you can think of to stop doing! I gave up drugs easier than cigarettes and that's no BS! I know what and how you feel! But you have already beat the habit my friend, the rest is nothing but a downhill battle and your on top!

BRAVO FUCKING BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SIX DAYS NOW, YOU WIN!

Boom

Looks like a gauged my cigs just right. I have 7 left and then that's it. So the way I look at it, that's one per inning almost. I hope they don't go into extra innings tonight. I might need the smelling salts then.

I was a 1.5 to 2 pack a day guy when I quit over 21 yers ago now. You CAN do it! I did it cold-turkey, no patches etc. I even gave up coffee at the same time (they went hand-in-hand). The trick is, if you really, deep down, and honestly want to quit, you can do it and you will do it. Unless you have the real desire to kick the habit, all the gimmicks in the world aren't worth a tinker's damn. You have the desire and the motivation, so one day at a time, you will do it! Good luck!

One physiological trick i learned.... acknologe you want one, dont deny. But then work it out from there and think of why you are quiting and find something to do.  The craving is like a wave... it only last for a little bit then you move on. The trick is not to give in as the waves get further and further apart.... less and less intense till they are gone.

Time heals many things.

Good luck to all of you trying to quit... and congrats to those that have.

Yeah BOOMER thanks man u and I have something in common. The turning point or me was when I went into our corner store with my son and he asked the shopkeeper if he could buy a pack of smokes cause he wanted to be like his daddy. broke my heart to hear him say that so I bought a pack of gum and pop instead and walked out haven't smoked since. As a parent we have to remember that we are the biggest influence in our kids lives and what we do our children want to do as well. i want to set a better example for my kids

Cheers
