I remember when I was little (yes there was a time) and i lost a dog and a cat. I was 5 when my dog passed and 7 when my cat passed and I really did miss the hell out of them. I'd get me a nice new little kitten like was suggested. it would really help smooth it out. it did for me.

Kids are a lot tougher than we parents give them credit for. I have always told the kids the truth..when the Rabbit died I told them that he had died very happy and all the love they gave him made it easier for him to go to sleep and now he is playing in a big field with all the other happy rabbits. And sorry guys but I would hold off on the replacement kitty untill they are a little older and start asking for it. Awards

As an early childhood education major and former 2 yr old preschool teacher, this is the best way to handle it. Sorry to hear about your cat. Those conversations are never fun. My younger sister just found out about 3 years ago (shes 25 now) that our dog who "was given away to a farm" had really died when my sister was 4. haha, simple and sweet is best
