dont forget your minimap ;)

edit: your loadscreen and minimap should be the VERY LAST thing you do before you send it out for the servers..............

after you've selected and done your surface inspector, and your surface is like out of wack (looking warped I guess).... select your surface again and hit / ctrl,shift m (n) I think and it will straighten that out for you and make it look like what its suppose too! Cheers

btw next tip will cost 20 dollars US only.......

Very nice though for a terrain map! we use to have a bunch of those back in the DF2 days........very few buildings on them back then.

Great Job!

I did the minimap already. What a pain in the ass that was to figure out. I am working on a load screen. I spent a lot of time (more than I care to think about) messing around with stupid cliff textures. The lightmap issues on some of those funky terrain patches were not fun to deal with when I first started; now I have it down though.

I put the tent in there so Jacko will have a place to sleep. I will make sure to tell him to sleep on his back if you are around though, Google.

This goddamn loadscreen is starting to really piss me off. I have done everything...numerous times...but it won't load. No error is being thrown that I can see. WTF.

is all your map files in the iwd ? I recall for cod4 you have to run the map from a mod to see the loadscreen.

This is what I did: I created a screen shot an converted it to TGA format (I tried both a 512x512 and a 1024x1024); then I used Asset Manager to create the IWI file and materials. I updated all my .CSV files (zone, zone_source, and the one in mp/maps). I rebuilt my fast file (no errors). I copied the FF into usermaps/mp_road, and rebuilt the IWD file with an images folder that contains both the IWI file for the loadscreen and for the minimap (the minimap works).

Seems like I did everything, unless I need to modify the GSC file to tell it something about the loadscreen, but I haven't seen a single tutorial that say I need to modify the GSC file.

Ahh I fixed it.

I guess I needed to rebuild the load.ff file as well and I didn't do that before.

So, one of you experienced map makers tell me what the mp_mapname_load.ff file is for, anyway. To create it, I just created a blank map with the appropriate name and saved it... what the hell does it do?

In the past the loadff file would go into the mod folder while the iwd and main ff would go into usermaps. That was changed in patch 1.6 or 1.7 to put them all together.

Sammy - I ran the map on the new mod and I got that strange "FX" all weapons viewable error thingie you see on some maps:

123731076-4.jpg

And here is a screen shot of the log file:

123731078-4.jpg

Any idea why that is happening?

Well, it looks like because I had my GSC file set up to specify the axis/allies models. If I remove the following lines:

game["allies"] = "sas";

game["axis"] = "russian";

game["attackers"] = "axis";

game["defenders"] = "allies";

game["allies_soldiertype"] = "woodland";

game["axis_soldiertype"] = "woodland";

It appears to work okay.

I dont know much about mapping but usually they do have those lines. Do you get the error in any other mod?

the only time I have seen the red fx come up is when you are missing something from your fx, example; you have exploding barrels and they explode but then it comes out with the red fx..... your zone_source file has not been updated it must also contain within it the parts of the exploding barrel so it kows what to do...

get it?

Sometimes it could take a dozen times or more (when compiling) you must also choose the update zone file option step #4 before your zone_source file will actually update itself....and if you don't do it right, in the proper steps and AIN'T gona happen for you! its just 1 of many piss you off things the program will do to you! wait till you put exploding cars in a map....you will pull the rest of your freaking hair out!

You should not have to build a loadff file, thats done automaticly by the game itself, so you did something wrong somewhere if you had to do that...

the loadff file, if I am correct tells the ff file what to do.

Nothing in this game is done without something else telling it what to do and how to do it!

WELCOME to the world of mapping! :question:
