As someone who has worked in IT for the VAST majority of their career, I can say I've seen some pretty messed up crap. All of that has now been eclipsed by your absolute failure to bring COD5 authentication servers back on-line after over six days now. Yeah, I get it, Sandy dealt you a horrendous blow, right? Wrong. You did that to yourself by failing to build data centers featuring a redundant architecture capable of ensuring 100% up-time throughout foreseeable natural and unnatural acts? Has 9/11 and Irene taught you nothing? Has Sandy driven the point home to you now?

Moreover, how is it that, after 6 days, you still cannot restore a backup onto another set of servers in a different data center? Does it mean so little to you that you are willing to just blow off a community of gamers, and yes even INVESTORS like myself, in favor of just sitting on your thumbs waiting to get back into your waterlogged data center instead of doing the right thing and seeking an alternative path to operational status?

And finally, what does this say about the IT management within your company. Do you really feel compelled to retain an IT staff who has so blatantly failed you? How is it that redundant architecture and backup facilities to mission-critical services fell off your IT staff's radar? It would seem as though they have FAILED to grasp even the most basic tenets of their profession.

Activision's conduct in this matter hardly reflects credit upon yourselves. Get off your asses, and get to work!

That is all.

EXCELLENT!!!! As I said in another thread, there is simply no excuse for this. They should have been up and running on another host within several hours. It's just a big Fuck You to the COD5 community, and one we won't forget.

What you both say is very true and its something they all do as a bussnes plan. Spend as little as you can and get as much as you can from your customers. I assure you they would like nothing more then to drop any and all servers they have running dead games. If this would be apple 2 years after the game can out it would be off line. Remember these are the people who in thier ULA tell you its not your game, just leased to you. So there should be no surprize there's no real rush to getting this game back online. Truly a sad thing for us but we don't own the game just the fun we get out of playing it .

Would you hope they had backup/disaster recovery in other physical locations sure. In reality most consumers made a 50$ investment and have how many hours of entertainment from it? I think the average gamer made out ok and will survive. This coming from someone who worked for an isp for 11 years and is still in the industry. There are bigger issues to worry about on the East coast than one of the weakest COD games in the franchise.

djMot this was posted on one of the data centers in manhatten

Disaster Recovery Solutions

Disasters are rare, but they are a reality.

They can affect your critical data, your company’s revenue…and the trust of your customers.

Data’s highly secure and fully redundant Disaster Recovery Solutions (DRS) ensure your company’s information is safe, duplicated and available immediately and at any time.

In the event of a disaster, such as a blackout or power failure, how quickly can your company be back online?

In previous blackouts, Data customers remained up-and-running due to careful DR and backup planning, including available diesel generators, backup HVAC and redundant and flexible connectivity. However, in the unlikely event of a power failure, Data customers receive a proactive notification of any failed backup operation and our on-site team of Data technicians begin to troubleshoot systems immediately to ensure a safe and fast recovery. Additionally, all replicated data is immediately available.

doa its been 6days

as an old programmer analyst, i can tell you that there would have been a dozen ways they could have made a quick fix to this problem, THEN worry about insurance, location and all the rest... as DJ wrote, they have shown a blatant disregard for their customer base... And will most probably do so in the future... so I have a question...

are we still paying for those dead servers, or do we get a discount for the time down? I know it is prolly not through Activision that we rent the servers, but still if they are down for an extended period of time, they should give either a credit towards future months rental, or send a reimbursement for the time down. hit them where it counts... get the other major clans to do the same... and watch how FAST it gets back online...

someone know a good business lawyer? lets shake them up, or at least WAKE them the fuck up!

Hello all,

Many people have been running into server problems and disconnects as they attempt to play Modern Warfare 2, World at War and Black Ops. This is due to Hurricane Sandy currently causing power outages on the North Eastern Coast.

For future information please check support page at the link below.

I'll also do my best to keep this announcement updated with any information I receive.

I actually just did that before reading your post, Krunch. lol.

Be brief, though... They limit the number of characters in your "feedback."
