get all important pics if any and saveable items [make sure they aren't infected as well]....right click drive C......format........quick format...the only way to be sure.....good luck.

Don't know where you get all this just format the drive stuff?, i right click my C drive and only get this message "This drive contains volumes of Windows that you are using, formatting this volume could cause your PC  to stop working" so no option to format that drive at all, i also don't get any "quick format" options either, bottom line it will not let me format my "C"  drive, but again nobody read my post, my PC was completely locked up, had no way or no way i knew to unlock it, that's the whole point they lock your PC  up so you cannot get out and format this do that or whatever else.

if u go to control panel .....then go to administrative tools then disk partition u can do it there and yes if u format the hard drive that way it will delete ur windows files and ur pc wont work then u have to reinstall windows ....i really wouldnt suggest that its best to do what i say in above post

I don't have any options to delete partitions in "control panel administrative tools" Cobra, i have something that i paid for and was pre-loaded on my PC called "Acronis True Image"  that can be accessed when the PC  is booting, basically it's the same thing, you can change or delete partitions etc, that is what i did, i restored my PC  back to it's original factory settings and started from scratch.

hmmmm was no need for that program to even be on ur pc..wow.but u should still have the same options i have its typical windows files that default on pc...when u click admin tools...click computer management then in left pane click the disk management then u will see ur disk(s) partitions then u rt click on it and it will give u all ur options what to do with the partition. forgive me sob i am a pc tech i just know where this stuff is at on pc lol

carry out a restore before this happened ,you may have to do it in safe mode then install the free malwarebytes and run a full scan you then just follow the malwarebytes prompts after the scan to remove this.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

i have fixed more pcs than i care to remember with the type of attack SOB had  and never would anyone need to part with money to do this.

sob call me first before you par wiv cash we have so many great guys on her who would give a solution.

I know Rock but like i said, i had never heard of this thing before, i thought it was genuine and to my deep shame i fell for the con and i had no way of knowing how to unlock my PC  to even ask for help, i know it happened because i had my Firewall switched off because it had caused a problem with a game or a program, i can't even remember which one now, but Firewall is on all the time now.

Yes there was need for that program Cobra, this actually takes the place of your Original settings disk that you used to get free with all PC's but it seems it's something else they have taken off us, instead of a Disk to restore your PC to it's original state i have this program to do it, but for the life of me when i go in there to look at it, it takes me ages to figure out what to do again, i need to be a boffin like duc to understand it :hrhr:

Sob in windows 7 you can reformat your hard drive if you follow a few simple rules. ts really quite simple. I did it just this week in fact.

Okay guys to my surprise and bewilderment my son fixed his computer with in about 30 minutes after I posted this. I didn't tell you this because if it wasn't permanent I wanted you to post anyway just so we would have more options. I think this kind of thread should be permanent as a forum header by itself. Now to tell you what he did. He had already tried to reboot it once but he didn't during the reboot process to push F8. By doing this it turned the Windows program repair. I don't know how and neither does he but it turned on and scanned and repaired everything wrong with the OS. How cool is that? I told him to watch it very closely in case it came back and that was why I never re-posted til now. I am sincerely thankful for friends like you and that you tried to help as best as you could. My teacher when I went to school said one thing that made me realize how broad and different computers are and how variable they are. "There are more ways to fix a computer than just one way". All this info is good but he happened on the avenue that worked for him. Lord knows we could not afford this right now. Thanks again all my friends!

Good suggestions.  Is it any wonder that people are flocking in droves to appliance devices like consoles and tablets?  Who wants to deal with all of this crap?

If people have Android phones or tablets, they ought to install AV protection too.

You are 1000% correct, "Least secure operating system ever"

I was kinda referring to those 'other' tablets.

Hi Gene ...

I agree with the info that CPT Teneal gave you. Either you can get into Safe Mode as it will only run executables that get you into Safe Mode, then run a PC antivirus scan software like Malwarebytes. Or buy another HDD and install Clean copy of windows on that to boot to and use the infected disk as a second drive. Purpose of this is so you can boot to a clean copy of windows, install an Antivirus software on it to run on the infected 2nd drive. After ithe infected drive is all clean, you can use it again or transfer everything onto your new drive, your choice. thats all I can think of as i have not been infected with this one yet but do have experience with similar ones that so the same. I always keep a clean HDD around with windows and a few antivirus programs installed on it just for these threats. :-)

My stupid neighbor got a virus on his new phone yesterday.Don't watch p0rn0 on your I phone lol.

I would still atleast run malwarebytes.http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Even if he did manage to get it working there will always be some part or parts of that program floating around his HDD.Registry entries and temp files will still remain unless they are removed, either with a program or by manually deleting them.

If it was My PC I would just do a Low level format and Clean install. It takes a couple hours but you know 100% of the crap is gone.
