Angus and I are on the same network here at home.  We both run Windows 7 and are both hardwired to the internet.  Our computers are comparable.

When I do a speedtest.net test I get speeds of 55Mbps, when Angus does it he gets 15Mbps,  he also has problems loading new pages on the internet, it takes forever to load.  This is true in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera.  When he plays COD his pings are not much different from mine.  The only thing different on our network is a new modem.

He has tried scanning his system for malware and viruses.  He has changed the ports on the modem.  He has made sure the proxy settings are off.  He has defragged.  He has tried using an "N" wireless router.

Any help here would be appreciated. :)

When did this start doing this? Which is the main pc off the router?  What you might try is just switching the hardwire to where he is the primary pc and you the secondary or vice versa! Gatorgirl it could also be the cable needs replaced I have had to do that more than just a couple times throughout the years! Good luck with this challenge you have! I wonder if it could be his internet access card is bad or evden not big enough! I have seen them form 100mps to 1000 mps! I hope I am saying all this stuff right! I am not having a good day and don't remember technical names and stuff!

Thanks Dean.   He is the primary on the router, we tried switching, no luck.

Damage, he has scanned with at least two different programs and removed a bunch.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/

sometimes it is hidden in background.this program should be run 1st to shut down suspicious programs then you can scan normaly with then adwcleaner and malwarebytes-

when its slow see if its because he has multiple open connections -normally u may have maybe 9 but if its like 60- 80 then there is a browser hijack or pup virus usualy bogging it down

Maybe your internet provider. What is you upload speeds and download? I used to have up to 5 mg download and found they were only giving me 1 mg because they were throttling something their not supposed to do. So you may have to upgrade your service. You can check your speed here speedtest.net to make sure you are getting what you pay for.

Gator Girl after all these sugestions I think the problem is just with Angus. I think he is starting to peter out there Gator it might be time to just try a newer model. Oh BTW! did you try to give him one of those little blue pills it might get him up to 55Mps so he can shoot his load of pages that's been backing up. Gator if all else fails you can strap-on a proxy and change his port.

Hunter, we have the fastest cable internet we can get.  We are on the same router, both hardwired and I get 55Mbps and he is getting 15 Mbps.  They can't just throttle one computer on the same router can they?

Try to change the duplex settings of his network card

It should be "Auto Negotiation" if it is not set it to this option, otherwise try 100Mbps Full Duplex

Ok, next try:

Open a Windows command prompt in exactly (!) this way:

- preess the WinKey+R

- type in cmd
- click ok

This will open a new command prompt with admin permissions

Execute this command:

netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled

press return and test again. If things getting worse you can reset this with: netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal

Have you tried a different network card in the computer (if you have a spare kicking around)?  Possible faulty card.
