I am from Texas, and not only Texas, but the lower rio grande valley..

The area in Texas I live in has the highest obesity rate in the nation, highest poverty rate in the nation, and lowest education rate in the nation, but lowest cost of living. Go South Texas.

Hey but we got SpaceX so theres that.

I can't believe Colorado is cocaine! Really? I would have thought Florida or California!!

And Florida for most old folks!

I can verify the Air Pollution state (California)

Growing up when we went to the local high school pool in the summer the smog was so bad that when we got home after swimming a couple hours if you tried to take a deep breath . . . well that's just it . .try is all you could do because you would cough and your chest hurt.

Never trust any air you can SEE!!

So now I live in a state (Montana) that has air so clean  . . . .hell its gotta be fake . . . lol

Montana is the Drunk Driving state. I would have to agree from what I have seen here. Whereas non-native Americans have their share of drunk driving fuck ups . . . in my opinion the tragic Drunk driving problem that exists here is overwhelmingly Native Americans (Indians).  Far too many drunk driving wrecks (solo car) involving Native Americans and many drivers have 3,4 and  5 convictions but since these cases are heard in Tribal courts the information is not always forwarded to the state . . .  . Hmmmmm

California is probably #1 in the amount of love people have for their cars even with sitting in constant traffic every day. Gotta send your kids to school 1/4 a mile away? Get the mega SUV. Carpool? Thats only for the little people. I know its just as bad in many other states but the fact CA has such a huge population its worse. Train projects fail because people would rather spend 2 hrs in traffic getting to work than 1 hr sitting back in a train reading the paper. Result? Terrible air pollution but its not nearly as bad as it used to be. Gotta love it when you see people whine like little kids about smog checks for their cars.

in 1991 I drove to San Fransisco and when I got to L.A. and headed up I5 I could not believe what I seen. The smog was so thick you could only see 20 to 30 feet in front of you. I was scared to get out of my car to get gas. Then the gas pump had this slinky thingy on the gas pump. I have never seen anything like it.... and yes it has gotten way way better.

Don't trust air you can chew as well.

Guam... but not a state.. and of course Texas. Just a small state north of Mexico and just East of Guam.

The smog in California has gotten much better over the last 20 years. I've been here since 1977 and it was horrible until the mid 90's. Emission controls on the millions of cars we have made the biggest difference. What little smog we have left blows over to Nevada. We do still have a lot of forest fires and during the peak seasons the smoke in the air is still really bad all over the state. In the winter time when we have the least amount of air movement they have red alert days when you are not allowed to burn fires in the fire place, even if the temps get really cold.

I am from the stroke state as well. I am also part Cherokee Indian. I have been to Montana and have experienced the drunk driver issue there. It is sad what was done to the American indian. But even sadder what they have done to themselves.

I do tend to rag on California's air quality perhaps too much (It's hard to forget those days when breathing deep meant coughing  and chest pain and all because I was doing something natural . .. . .breathing)  you are correct in how the smog checks on cars have made vast improvements in the air quality.

An example of how much cleaner the emissions from automobiles have become, Back in the late 60s and early 70s there were just a fraction of the number of vehicles there is today and yet those cars produced as much or more than the cars do today.

In the beginning it was a big hassle to get a smog inspection every other year or in some cases yearly and if you had a "clunker" that didn't run to well and you struggled to keep it going (my first car) it was a bitch meeting the demands of the inspection process.

Its because of the strict emission laws that California's air has got so much better over the years and all the bull shit that everyone has put up with over the years has certainly paid off.
