I didnt know Robert Jordan had died for 3 yrs till i picked up the latest Wheel of time book, that sucked!

He wrote 2 Conan novels that were good.

Frank Herbert is a great author but not for everyone. Love his Dune stuff and also read his sons prequal sequal books he writes with Kevin J Anderson.

Robin Hobb is good with several trilogies out there to buy.

Phillip Jose Farmer wrote some crazy stories that are interesting.

Elizabeth Moon writes some good space battle type SciFi.

Arthur C Clarke

Isaac Azimov

Robert Zelazny

Robert Adams

Isnt Sanderson the guy thats helping finish The wheel of time?

Im a nerd...

TE_Jackal has some good ideas there..

Roger Zelazny - Chronicles of Amber (These books are great. 2 series.. 5 books each)

J.R.R Tolkien - Lord of the Rings series (I'm sure you've seen the movies..and although they are great.. read the books)

Julian May - Saga of Pliocene Exile (I like these books, 9 total in series)

Anne McCaffrey - Dragon riders of Pern (about a 19 books in this series)

Slightly left of centre, but what about the good old "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and "Restaurant at the edge of the Universe"?

Also, Raymond E. Feist is good, bought and read the lot, a nice back catalogue to plow through.

The all time greatest author is F. Paul Wilson.  His Repairman Jack series is second to none.  But before you read the first RJ book you must read The Keep!  It actually sets the dynamic for further novels by Wilson.  I have not been disappointed in any of his other books either.

www.repairmanjack.com

Vince Flynn is my second favorite of all time, you have to start with the first one of 'Term Limits.  Then the same thing goes for Flynn, once you read one you will want to read them all.

www.vinceflynn.com

Lee Child is another author that is very good.  He is my 3rd favorite.

www.leechild.com

Brad Thor is awesome!

www.bradthor.com

Daniel Silva is also really good.

www.danielsilva.com

Those are just a few.  But the best book to read and learn from is The Bible!

Thanks,

Jack

But Terry Goodkind The Sword of Truth series is a 12 book series I been reading on for 2 years now.. Its awesome!!!  http://www.terrygoodkind.com/bookshelf.html  ....  Him and Robert Jordan have very similiar styles...  In fact they even made a TV show out of Terry Goodkinds books called Legend of the Seeker, which is what The Sword of Truth series is about!!!! You WONT be disappointed!!!!!!!! I am on the last book now!!!

Not sure what kind of work you do Teleck but the public library should have shelves of books on cd -  you could just pick out

some random stuff to listen to while you work.  When I used to take alot of road trips I'd just check out a few cds' and enjoy.

Stephen King is my favorite author but I'll read just about anything I can get my hands on.   Ron Paul has some good stuff if

you're into that kind of thing.

and don't forget

Ooooh! Musn't forget Weaveworld by Clive Barker, fantastic!

Also really interesting.....

Erik Durschmeid - "The Hinge Factor, How chance and stupidity have changed history".   Basically great military cock-ups on massive scales, truly unbeleivable in the witlessness of military leaders and buffoons.

"The Weather Factor".  how weather changed the factors of war.

Also, not sure if you can get in US of A.   Alexei Sayle - Overtaken.  V funny and sad!

well..i posted this..and forgot to check it out after i did...i blame the beer...but ill check out some of the authors mentioned by you all.

but down loaded the new book by Brandon Sanderson (the guy finishing the robert Jordans Wheel of Time series)  and its pretty damn good.  and for us guys and gals who know how to read...just ignore them others who get thier stories told by the movie format....they like to sit infront of the tube clapping every time they see a boobie..and saying that was a great  movie cause they saw a nipple thru a t-shirt. Cool
