I got a SSD for my laptop... and I can not believe how much faster it is. Amazing how much a HD is a bottle neck. This thing screams now. Fun to install an OS on something that zips along so fast.

Nope... this drive was a 500gb for 166 after tax. I have an i5 decent laptop so worth more than that.

I will replace my others drives over time. Well worth to purchase a 250 GB for 87 before tax. Will make my other machines fly. Well worth the cost. Wait till my customer feels her old machine. She will flip how fast it is.

Buying a new laptop it is worth getting something not to expensive and pulling the drive out replacing it with an ssd. The computer will be 10 times faster.

Does anyone concerned about performance not use an SSD in this day and age?

Seriously, using an SSD on an old SATA link is pretty bad it's still a hybrid of SCSI and the old ATA bus, PCI direct (like M.2 aka NGFF) is the way to go.

Even better Raid together multiple M.2 cards for an unbelievable experience, here is a 4 card setup at ~ 5500 Megabytes per sec max read/write - http://barefeats.com/hard210.html

M.2 cards use your PCI-E lanes. If you only have a maximum of 16 PCI-E lanes and you use a M.2 card in a 4x lane you only have 12x left for your video card. Let's say you have a 28 lanes with a 5820K with an M.2 you will have 24 lanes left. Depending on how many PCI-E lanes your CPU has the M.2 can effect your performance.

also if u plan to install a M.2 that u better go with windows 10 as it has the drivers on the win install disc or files. Its very annoying to install win 7 on it.

i did that and booting time is like 5 times slower than a usual SSD. That is just because i couldnt get the piggin win 7 on a GPT usb key. I may try again this week to reinstall it another way, but very frustrating. it works fine when booted, but not as fast as it should. Or i may install win 10 to get rid of that GPT/MBR partiton problem, who knows lol
