Actually, the guy who bought it did not have the highest bid. He was one of the lower ones. However, he was the only one who wanted to keep the bridge intact, or mostly so. It is minus one arch. All other bidders wanted the granite for scrap. The City of London liked that the bidder wanted to keep and display the bridge. They trusted the man as he was a well known business man at the time. Any of you remember McCullough chainsaws? The town where this resides actually deeded one acre of land to the city of London. Just recently they had to get permission from the City of London to build a recreation area on their land. London had some stipulations such as, must be for the public good, and free admission I believe. It is still their land so they are the boss! Any way, it's kind of an interesting thing. It was dismantled and numbered block by block. Then it was transported to Arizona and assembled block by block using the numbers. The numbers are still clearly visible on the granite blocks.
