The problem with sniping is when you're learning the good snipers (because they're good) pick you off easily, this puts a lot of people off, but I persevered and now I'm getting better and don't get killed so often, I've even won a couple. I personally find sniping to be one of the most challenging games, if you make the effort you get the results, and that includes changing your camouflage at the start, one of the reason newcomers get slaughtered. It is a real team game which most people don't realise, in game you can talk to your own team (other team can't hear until the end) and guide each other onto movement that you cannot see (and don't expect to see much) and the highest scoring snipers move around and don't camp, but that needs skill. I'll get you started, after selecting your weapon the countdown begins, at the end of the countdown you have the chance to change your camouflage but must be done straight away, depending on the map the instructions are there, you then are invisible to the enemy for a period of time until you find a spot when your rifle comes up, if you find a spot early you can bring the rifle up early by pressing melee (delete on mine), V zooms in on scope F zooms out, unless you have those keys assigned to other things. You do not have to steady the gun, the bullet goes where the crosshairs are, keep an eye out over the next few days and I'll go through it with you, we can't talk though unless on same side. A lot of us like them in that server but we rarely play them. In terms of players on there, we all work as a team. If we see someone but can't take a shot, we call it out and hope someone can take it or if we get shot we do the same thing. I went in there yesterday and gave it a whirl so I know of the changing camouflage and we also have variable scopes as well on the CoD2 server, mine are bound to Alt and F, Alt being my melee key. As for new comers, I know the feeling. There are 4 on the CoD2 servers for our clan that are hella good snipers. Myself, Spartacus, Bullet and Newf. It's not fun with us on the same team but the CoD2 mod will run differently than the WaW one, a lot differently so I can't do much in WaW until I get used to the mod and maps! Even with only a few players. Otherwise in small maps most people tend to go to the same spots over and over. Making it that much easier for the good folks. I also dont like the no-cross mirror maps. There is no chance an enemy that respawned to your side, instead of right in front of you, might pick you off or even sneak up on you to get a clean shot. So its a catch-22. edit: Forgot to add, the best real sniper severs I ever played are UT2K4. Loved the translocator and all the teleporters made for great games. The entire map was an open field for every player. The unpredictability really pushed the need for skill on how to search in big environments. Would never work for those with ADD.
