Shouldn't go shopping when you're hungry.

Ribs ended up being in the oven for 8 hours.  Put 'em in @ 15:30, didn't get home to pull them until 23:30.  3X  sauced & broiled at the end.

Haha!  I bought some candy while making a Walmart pickup and ended up with way too much.  So never buy candy online!  But yes I also try not to shop while hungry.

I made ribs this past weekend - KC style.  I generally prefer Memphis style but I have a simple rib method that involves glazing.  Dry rub, three hours on the smoker on high smoke - apply glaze, cover with tinfoil, smoke for another two hours - remove tinfoil, glaze again, and smoke another hour or so.  These came from a farm down the road that we buy meat from once a month.  Glaze is simple: maple syrup, ketchup, mustard, and black pepper.   I make a dry rub based on a competition rub from Traeger or someone I found awhile ago.

On a side note:  That big-ass jar of pickled banana pepper slices is only a few bucks;  go to the canning section & they wanna crack your head for an empty jar... where here you get a glass jar & it's contents for less money.  Shady bastards.

Unfortunately for most hunters, they take the rib meat and throw it away or put it in the trim bag.  Next time you have the occasion, keep the ribs from a deer and make short ribs from them.  They are fantastic.

My friend's dad processed deer for side cash.  Had a shop with a band saw and about anything else you need for processing meat or wood working.  I concur with your sentiment.

@Bogleg Ever have tree rat?  Can actually guess what mast is their main source of sustenance just by the flavor of the meat.

I've been eyeing all the squirrels in the woods behind my house.  They are real fat from hickory nuts and acorns and I have the right kind of broadhead to make a meal or three.

...and I like Red Ear sunfish & Crappie, catfish, even, better than Largemouth.  Their flavor is delicate & good to enjoy, though, when you're in the mood.  Hey!  Do you listen to https://www.jimstrader.com/?  Love his radio show.

I would eat those in this order:  Crappie, catfish, sunfish, largemouth.  What's a red ear?

Nothing beats walleye for freshwater fish.  I will die on this hill. EDIT: Although a good sized yellow perch isn't far behind.

Not that it's an amazing feat, but I can skin & gut one in under 30 seconds, easy.  Because:  https://youtu.be/3cQNkIrg-Tk?t=48  I take satisfaction & enjoyment of my ability to find sustenance from the wild.

But yeah I will eat the hell out of bluegill, pumpkinseeds, etc.   We used to catch 5 gallon buckets of them out of the Mississippi near La Crosse and have big fish fries in the summers.

Guess I call those pumpkinseeds.

Pumpkinseed - from my experience - is what I know as a variety of Redear.

I use 'em when I do the occasional Flathead fishing trip.  Live bluegill, that is;  for bait.
