Yeah, COD WaW seems to be hard. I have no idea how to fix that. Seems like their login service is out?
Optional, dual boot could be nice if you still have the old drive. With that, cloning to a SSD/M2.

No, I have the regular disk. I have tried to fix it for I think 8 nights in a row to get it working. I have one drive where the COD5 is installed and I am very careful with that one. Now I am trying to dual boot and using hardware that Win7 can run on. Yet I have to try a PCIe x1 USB card too, to stick in for modern hardware and see if that can be done.

The 1060 should not be a problem at all. See if you can try the DXwebsetup

Unplug it if you can. WIth USB you can just let it 'eject' in that systemtray. Let the program Rescan/refesh it again. Or else shut it down, unplug and do it again. If it is a fixed drive, any drive, just focus and select them underneath and checker it. Sometimes it is a matter of looking and concentration  ;)

Read ya tomorrow! As always, let us know if it works for you. Always helpful for others.

Had no issues myself with any of the COD games going from Win7 to Win10 and to Win11.  Fortunate I guess...  I did a re-install after going to Win11 only because I went from SSD to NVMe.

Someone, who knows someone, and a niece of that someone, whispered in my ears to Google: Windows 10 CD keys

Not sure if that someone is speaking the truth. I am not going to check that out.

Hmm. Did the win7 to 10 a few months ago due to a few software requirements. Has worked very well with the few games I played. However as online games... battlenet/epic/steam/etc... Im sure they did any required upgrades automatically. COD4 modding did require a couple permissions changes I believe for the compiler to work and access various folders and files.

Built a box for my 6 yo grandson last week.  Clean install of Win10 and I use a old Win7 Pro key I had.  Activated just fine, then did the upgrade to Win11 with no problems.  It was a retail key so your results may vary.  Did it on a Gigabite B550M DS3H, AMD 5600G, 16 gigs and a 1T NVMe.... Cause every Dude needs a computer to play ROBLOX and COD2 on.

sing the tool to upgrade this PC to Windows 10 (click to show more or less information)

Here’s when to use these instructions:

You have a license to install Windows 10 and are upgrading this PC from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.

What does error 80072F8F mean?

Windows Update error 80072f8f usually occurs when your computer's date and time are not the same with the date and time for the online Windows Update service.Nov 30, 2017 so maybe if I change my date and time to 2017,,lolol
and yes i am administrator

the other thing is its the tsl setting,,so I fixed that and still error!!!

This is one of the most widely observed reasons people encounter this error code 0x80072F8F 0x20000. This could be because your computer might have a dated TLS version enabled.

TLS allows you to establish secure and encrypted connections over the internet. Most outdated Windows computers only have TLS 1.0 and SSL3 enabled.

Microsoft, on the other hand, uses upgraded TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 security protocols for its servers.

This incompatibility of TLS versions can be the reason that every time your computer tries to establish a connection with a Microsoft server, the connection fails and shows the error code 0x80072F8F 0x20000.

To fix this error, you must enable TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2.

There are two ways you can do that.

I installed Win 10 booting from a USB stick using the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and the Win7 key.  Then after 10 booted up to the desktop I did ran the "setup" file from another stick I made using the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool  https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 .  But during the install I did tell it to "not" check for updates. I think it works better that way.  I did the 10 first because my daughter had never used 11 and I let her mess around a bit on my 11 box to see if she wanted to move to 11.  Right now not much reason to rush to 11 unless you just want to.
