FYI it does seem like they have messed up their BGP routing - they host their own DNS etc. and having messed that up they essentially 'withdrew' from the internet.

That article (access through web archive as live is obviously down) details a bit into how they are managing it. But if they have pushed a bad update then I imagine they lost access to the development/engineering tools to rollback. On top of that if you imagine most corporate structures use VPNs for remote working which are under their DNS and many other internal and external tools that is likely impeding the resolution simply due to access issues. How does one authenticate against a domain if it does not resolve?

Fascinating problem that they are experiencing and I'm intrigued to see if we get details of the root cause and resolution. I wouldn't be surprised if there are people attempting to breakdown access controlled doors as we speak or manual patching of configs in data centres.

I think there is more to it than that. I'm curious to get the full story if its ever made public. Screwing up a bgp config\routes on a Cisco or Juniper infrastructure for example would only take minutes to roll back if everything shit the bed.

Put Pandora back in the box !!!  Maybe Myspace will come back !!!  🤣   Lets hope Social Media and the Media in general become liable for their content.  Maybe thats why FB is scrubbing all the bad stuff as we type.  Cover their tracks !!

Its pretty easy to scrub data. Nothing would have to come down.

  3.   I've been in IT for over 20 years and 11 of that was for an ISP. Buy all the backup and surge protection you want. Against a small power surge it can help. NOTHING on the market I've seen  will stop a good lightning strike. Unplugging power and ethernet connections are your best protection. If you have a cable modem unplug your coax as well. Electricity tends to travel down that copper quite well. Usually if it comes over coax your modem, router and sometimes copper connected devices are done.

  4. I am currently a Network Security Engineer. I have worn about every hat in IT and still partially do when needed. Network Engineer, IT Director, etc. For private industry and local government. A majority of my 21 years in the field was for a major ISP. With having kids later in life I may never retire. Unless my brain, eyes and or fingers cease to function. All of which is possible.

  5. Respecting everyone's opinion I will give you facts. The hit box remains the same jumping and running or holding still. Is someone hopping with a good movement rate harder to hit? Slightly. (practice your aim people) Does it make them immune to bullets. NO. Can they catch you by surprise more often. Yes. Try the ESC server sometime. It draws your gun up when you jump which is an option on the server. Its a snooze fest in my opinion. Nice people but not nearly as action packed as our servers. People cry when you hop over a rock there. Some people prefer that. Not I. We are an older crowd mostly but this game still moves slow compared to many others out there. Play our cod2 servers or COD Warzone sometime. It makes our cod4 servers seem in slow motion. It will give you perspective.

  6.   He is talking about Quake remastered. Which is Quake 1 remastered for the 25th Anniversary available on Steam. I still have Quake III. My favorite of the series. Probably the only game I have more time in than cod. Quake live was the best thing morphed off of Quake III. Probably the best net code I've ever played on. Anyone who wants to play any of these flavors let me know. History for all you nerds Cod4 is built on a modified Quake III engine.
