Ok, so i got my PC video upgraded (yes if i knew someone who could do it i am sure it would have been cheaper, but unfortunatly, i had the money in my hand and if i waited it woulda got spent other places)

So, for $250 canadian i got a ASUS Nvidia ENGTS450 DirectCU card  1GB GDDR5  installed at a shop and got a PC cleanup done

As i know absolutly nothing about computers or anything other than to get to porn and COD i dont know if i got ripped LOL, not that i can do anything about it now, its all done and sitting here beside.Guy at shop says my mother board also has a couple heat blisters, they arent leaking but they are there, he sugests a new mother board and a new case, apparently i have a small case LOL ( i said CASE sexyGuy, not COCK) He says the MB could last me a week, month,year... who knows... needless to say, im worried about it now, and if i were to mention even spending another cent on the PC, my wife will kill me! Gotta keep my fingers crossed that everything will work out

Now the guy at work has me all freaked out saying my power supply isnt going to be big enough, called buddy back at the shop, he says it will be fine, and if it isnt ill just have to buy a new power supply, man what did i get myself into, damn stomachs in knots here LOL

he charged me 169 for card and 59 for the cleanup, then taxes. Just hope the power supply works, he said not to worry, hes said hes more worried about the 2 blisters on the MB and me getting a bigger case for better cooling

StormCrow,

This is your new SOP (standing operating procedures).

1- Ask for advices first.

2- Slowly start to get to know a little more about your hardware....browse forums like here or reputable hardware forums.

3-always compare prices with online retailers.

Look here for pics of leaky or blown capacitor.

http://www.google.ca/images?hl=en&q=capacitor%20leaking&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1680&bih=857

EDIT...FAIL posting link..lol

If some of the capacitors are slowly dying, I would start shopping ASAP...

4-Never trust "corner store" salesman/owner EVER, without double checking.

No shame bro, stuff happens. And like Wizid said, it's not TOO bad...but you could've got a GTX460 for the same price at Newegg, providing that the shipping is free like in the Zotac deal ($129 after mail-in rebate)...and you can do the job by yourself (with our help) anybody knowledgeable here can talk you into a simple install procedure using voice chat and pictures.

Don't hesitate to PM, or ask advices!!!! PM me anytime I volunteer!!!

I'm 200% sure that we can help you do the job by yourself next time...

For your Power supply, might be fine...what is it exactly? (Brand, model, wattage....)

i dont know, my brother built this PC and from the looks of what i can tell it is only a 300 watt power supply, the box for the card says 450 minimum.... i think buddy screwed me there, he still says it should be fine, to try it out and see. I have a feeling i am going to be bringing it back to get a new power supply put it

you PSU might hold, but that guy has no clue....he'll try to sell you another PSU, a POS that he'll sell you for double the price...You'll end up paying more and more...anyway you can force him to take the card back and refund you? After all, he's the one telling you your computer (with blown caps) is good enough...and was ready to take that card...

He should've have given you better advices...instead he got you into a downward spiral...

The total system draw of a "REGULAR" system with a GTS450 inside will draw about 250watts...so you are pushing the system to it's limits with a crappy ol PSU....you'll end up with blue screens....

Before you buy another PSU, tell us how much you want to pay.

Also, take pictures of the capacitors I wanna see that...no sense buying anything now if the motherboard gonna die soon...

Hi mate I would listen to the guy's here they can and will always help a fellow Idiot in need...

But apart from the power supply it might be a good idea to leave the side panel off your comp because if the case is as small as you say it is you will start to get overheating problems. The Graphics card you have can run very warm and without adequate cooling it could cause you even more problems. (But only leave it off if safe to do so no little fingers around or pets)

Edit.... By the way have you adequate memory I was just wondering why the upgrade of the gpu did you have issues before or just a spur of the moment decision...

i dont know what the capacitors are?!?!?!?!? LOL

You are talking to the most PC illiterate person you will meet

All i know is what the guy told me, he said that there are a couple small blisters on the MB near the ram, said it could last a week, it could last a year, but my best bet is to get a new one. 2 weeks before xmas and i drop 250 bucks on the PC, the wife will kill me if i put anymore in. I do have liek 60 bucks hidden away that the wife doesnt know about. He says for abouty another 250-300 he can get me a new board, power supply and case, told him i dont have the money, i maxed my credit card getting the damn card.

Baldie, only upgraded the card cause i want to play the new COD's, the card i had in there ran COD4 fine, but nothing above it, no WaW, MW2, BO, nuttin

Gots a feeling im gonna have to find a way to scrape up 300 bucks LOL, oh well, live and learn i guess

I'd take the card back. For $330, you get at BestBuy a new Presario with 500GB hard, 2GB memory and a Geforce 6150 with 895MB vid memory that will run all COD games with the possible exception of Black Ops.

I think for the motherboard, you shouldn't be paying that much. I had mine replaced and cost me less than 100USD around 80.

If you do think about it, you went there for a Graphics upgrade and ended up upgrading almost every single component. Smells fishy(not you and the fish you carry in your pocket)

Just use google "image" and type bad caps, blown capacitors or something. You'll get to see images of different kinds of caps, either blown, leaking, buldging...

sometimes, the upgrade of one component leads to a whole lot more when you're been misguided by a salesman, or the next-door "expert"...

OK StormCrotch, if you take the cover off yer case the capacitors look like this-

Bulging_capacitors.jpg

The tops should be smooth and flat, these are bulging (blistering) and that means leaking. Not good, there were alot of cheapo capacitors going round in the last couple years and they were like a time bomb waiting to go off. So you can inspect yours visually and see if you have any.

As far as the power supply it was probly $30 and it means it will actually only reach 300W once in its life, kinda like the cheapo amps you could buy for your car stereo that said 500 watts but were dogcrap lol.

Power supply are pretty cheap lately so no problem upgrading there, but if one of your capacitators blows reguardless it will send a voltage spike through your system. It may just take your M/B or the CPU too and some times will corrupt files on your Hard Drive with the improper shut down.

Just remember your local guy wants to sell you more shit, you(we) can decide if you really need it.

ok, i just looked inside and i can see 2 with a little bit of a buldge but zero leakage, all others are nice and flat . Which he said were there, and he said there is no leaking, said it was probably due to heat. The PC was VERY dusty and he said that holds alot of heat. I had my PC on the floor next to my desk, apparently not a good place for it, he said i should be ok, if i get the PC about 3 ft above the floor, keep the side off, and maybe as added precaution buy a small fan to keep blowing on it.

At work right now, when i get home in a few hours ill take a pic of the inside and upload it

When you're at it Stormcrow, can you post your computer specs, CPU, mother board and RAM?

For cases, a good $50 could get you a nice case IF you pay the REAL price for it...for cheap good cases, I like the Antec 300 myself.

I comes with one 120mm exhaust out the back (3-speed adjustable), one 140 mm exhaust on top (3-speed adjustable) and there is room for two OPTIONAL 120mm fans for intake...

WASHABLE AIR INTAKE FILTERS.....is a must...the Antec 300 has it...

For Powersupply, a good 60-70$ on a hand-picked Powersupply can get you something great and durable...again your corner-store "dink" will recommend you a POS and sell it for gold!!!!!!!

It's like taking your car into the garage, they always seem to find something else wrong with it, i had to get a new power supply when i recently upgraded to a new graphic card, if you ain't got enough power it could just freeze your pc up or give you a black screen or something, good news is power supply's are'nt that expensive you thongy faced oik....oh by the way Sexyguy said you do have a small cock anyway!Tongue out

it may be a good idea to get some dust off cans too sob.

i clean all fans and filters of all the computers i have like every month.

dust is a real pain for fans and cause lot of heat problems

just remember that u'll have to shut the pc down unplug the power cord before using the can.

The caps like that are due to the fact china stole the recipe from the US and missed one ingredient then sold to all motherboard manufactures for cheaper price. you get what you pay for LOL Dam China do it right the first time.

An easy get-around is to buy a mobo with SOLID caps. Most of Gigabyte's durable series and mid-high end ASUS boards are sporting solid caps.

Solid caps aren't 100% fail safe, but they are 10 times more durable on average than regular electrolytic caps.

look you could go on and on in what you could do to rebuild an old computer or build a new one....depends in what you want.

and how much you got to spend...period, so you can throw a lot of information at the guy that will not mean crap.

I will agree with one thing...if the caps are getting outa shape it will not be long before the board dies.

And yes you can buy a MoBo for well under 100 but for the most part they are crap too, otherwise I would not have paid 139.00 for the one that is in my machine. another mistake is buying a cheap power supply...for the most part they are crap too
