Makers Mark single barrel over ice........mmmmm, think I'll have one later. If you get the chance, visit Bardstown Kentucky. 5 distilleries within 10 miles and tastings all day long. Bed & breakfasts' close by too if the wife isn't driving.

Let's face it, most of us could not afford or pay for the worlds best whiskey whichever it is.

Most of the whiskeys here are the generic kind, sort of like just ordering a Bud or a Blue.

Some freaking whiskey are down right expensive and most certainly will never touch my lips for me to even offer and opinion.

I did research the Jameson we had while in Ireland and the Internet says $250.00 a bottle. Had I known that when it was offered I might have even appreciated it more. I knew it was good stuff, just did not know how good.

If they visit me here in the states I best be prepared to find a comparable whiskey to offer my guests. Hopefully they stay in Ireland, one of them under no circumstances would ever get on a plane.

I had 3 bottles at home a while back.

Now they are all empty :-(

As I live in the north of England, I'm not far away from Scotland so I have quite a few Scottish friends as well as a couple of reletives

and they tell me that ANY single malt is fantastic, and it just depends on your own taste as to which you

prefer but it is drunk on special occasions. However for everyday whisky (Blends) they all seem to like Old Grouse, (commonly called a "low flier".

Didn't bother to read the whole 10 pages to see if it's listed, but Elijah Craig is a damn fine bourbon whiskey.  Reasonably priced for the quality, too.... Around $25 for a 750 ml bottle.  Aged 12 years.  Small batch bourbon.  They also have a single barrel 18 year for a little more.

I used to drink Jim Beam and Crown Royal. Now I prefer Basil Hayden. I also have a bottle of Jim Beam Rye that is pretty good, a bottle of 18 year Chivas and a couple others. Jack Daniels is probably one of the only whiskeys that I do not like. I have some homemade stuff that is pretty tasty too :-)

For those on the other side of the pond....... www.singlemaltsdirect.com  I wish I had a selection like that to taste!
