I've got a budget range of $150 - $300. I'd prefer to stay way low on budget as that leaves me more money to spend on my weekend grilling. Anyway, being and old timer I used to refer to Tom's Hardware for video card comparisons but recently I'm just not getting what I need to know from there. So I thought I'd turn to some trusted references. So, my question is: Can I get some feedback on other player experiences between NVIDA vs. Radeon chipsets? AMD Also depends on your chipset of your mother board. I always follow that rule. (NVidia chipset Gforce)--- (AMD chipset ATI) Some of the newer boards go either way. I hate nvidia so I make sure to buy ati based boards. there are pros and cons to both. most of the games we host it doesnt really matter one way or the other. In my opinion I have had way more driver based errors with nvidia than I have had with ati/amd. check your board to see what it runs on the chipsets and you will have the answer that is right for YOUR application Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options... I prefer nVidia cards myself over ATI but again, these two makers battle it out and it's all personal preference. They both have good product. I have mixed feeling about both. To me, it depends...like a new game that comes out, some graphics cards from both manufacturers are good or bad (or bad price/performance ratio). I got: ATI xPert @ Work 8mo nVIDIA TNT2 M64 ATi X800Pro AGP ATi X1950 PRO AGP(dead on arrival) nVIDIA 7800GS AGP (gave away to a buddy, still running) nVIDIA 8800GTS 640 Mo superclocked (died after 4 years) nVIDIA GTX260 Core 216 (sold it) Ati HD5770 (in my daughter's rig) Ati HD4650 GDDR3 1 Go (laptop's GPU) (plays COD online at med graphics 1366 X 768) ATi HD5870 1 Go (sold it) 2 x MSI GTX560 Ti in SLI (what I have now...) So it's pretty close to EVEN.... I had driver issues in the past with ATI drivers (graphical glitches in a few games like Far Cry and BFBC2), some drivers that wouldn't install, stuff like that.... I prefer nVIDIA, but the new ATi cards coming-in before X-mas seems interesting.... It's impossible to do a blanket statement and declare a clear winner!!!!!! Discussing brand fidelity in Graphics cards leads nowhere, like American cars vs Imports, sports teams, everybody have their opinion... My guideline for graphics: Buy from a reputable brand, after researching and reading a few reviews on the product. Make sure you understands where the card stands in terms of performance (sometimes new cards are just rehashed chips)... Make sure you understand the warranty... ATI will come up with the "Southern Island" (HD7000-series) family of GPUs before Christmas...promising nVIDIA is working on the "Kepler" series now (GTX600-series) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options... I have 2 EVGA GTX470's in SLI for about the same price as a new 560 and I have a considerable performance gain. But you could buy a 560 now and buy another down the road and beat mine also. So it really depends on do you want a single good card with the ability to upgrade to a second later or do you want to go ahead and have better performance now and maybe upgrade to a better set again later when the prices drop again. Personally I would love to have 2 EVGA 590 classified in SLI $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ But 6 months down the road they will come out with the newest greatest thing and whatever you buy will be old news.
