I would have rather seen him donate this another less fortunate kid or to a school or church, it seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree in this family.

Ted, as valid as your point is. I don't think his daughter would have learned a lesson. I think the "shock and awe" value of this will be with her forever. I bet this guy works hard for everything he has just like all of our parents have. She sounds like a spoiled little brat that has no respect for anyone. I know when I was a kid and my Mom or Dad told me to do my chores and I said "NO" my Mom broke out the bottle of Tabasco and put a few drops on my tongue. Not only did it stop me from saying "NO" to my folks, but it gave me a great fondness for hot foods, LOL....

Now just think for all those who remember before there were video games, cell phones, or any thing that we as a society today take advantage of on a daily basis. If you were a kid and you parents took away your bike, skateboard, roller skates, walkie talkies or for all you old timers that had them, your tin can phone and disposed of them in a fashion that you and all your friends saw, trust me that you would think twice about trashing your folks in front of the world. Remember those toys were the way that we as kids had our "Social Network".

This father did the right thing in my book. I hope his daughter learned a lesson and starts to respect and take responsibilities for her actions and words.

I guess you failed to hear the fact that this girl was grounded for 3 months prior for almost the same action. So what better way to show her that you don't mess with your parents. Any type of negligence of duty or disrespect to others from this kid needed to be addressed. Today's society sucks, parents don't teach their kid respect and responsibilities for the actions that they take. I say bring back corporal punishment as well. Again remember when you were a kid (for those who know what I'm talking about) and you did something wrong at a friends house, your parents gave them permission to punish you.

The guy might be pissed and probably right in everything except for shooting his daughter's laptop. What's the message? next time I will shoot you? As a Dad I would never do anything like that to any of my daughters. Corporal punishment? Children who are physically punished for misbehaving tend to be more aggressive and antisocial later in life. There are several studies published on that topic

Cheers

Go Pops. Sounds like he cares how his daughter turns out.

More parents should be this concerned about their kids. I grew up with a list of chores a lot longer than hers.

As far as physical punishment to the child themselves, they need their butts whooped. All that BS that says that makes them turns out worse, is exactly that, BS!!!! There is a difference between a beating and a whooping.

I agree with the dad! That was just wrong and if it were my daughter after a stunt like that she would envy Cinderella! I was lucky growing up and never had to do house work unless I got in trouble or just wanted to help. I found new ways not to get caught, but I did what my brother didn't do (Mow and trash), but only because I hated seeing my dad labor in the sun after working in a hot factory. And Simplemod I have taught you well! Yes there is a difference between a whooping and a beating and I am one of the people going into the Psychology field. The only reason it makes the child worse is if you do it for every little thing they do.

I liked the part about "you may never see this, cause here's your laptop". Seriously, the daughter knows dad is an IT professional and she posts on facebook? One dull-witted, spoiled little bitch. In my day, you learned, and learned fast, that mom & dad weren't stupid. You had to be on the ball to cover your tracks. My standard line to nieces & nephews: "I was your age once, and people don't change.  You have yet to be MY age."

He's either turned her around (unlikely) or pushed her even further away (the more probable outcome).

If he works in IT, as he says he does, he should know there are less dramatic ways to implement a fix

to the problem and oversee his child's online behaviour.  I expect she'll just open a new Facebook account via

a library or net cafe PC and he wouldn't even know about that.

Well i my oppinion that girl need to learn respect.. but shooting it.. i wouldnt do that.. i would proberly go hello boarding school.!! or i know you have some military schools for youngester overthere.. something like that...

She is lucky.. being almost 16 and have a laptop.. when i was 16 (10 years ago) i was working to by my first cellphone myself my first computer.! and the amount of respect for money and the joy i had from bying it for my own money! i worked since i was 13 years old and young people today could learn something from just my generation!!

So all jr members get out there and earn your own money and just appriciate what you doing of chores at home! it will only help you through out life!! and trust me making your first purchase for own money is the best thing ever!!

i like it. When i was growing up I used to swear to God I would never be the kind of harsh parent my mother was. As an adult I have spent half a lifetime apologizing to my mother and explaining to her how, by proxy, I was twice, if not 3 times, more harsh with my son.The one thing I detest these days are these kids with their hands out screaming about entitlement. BAck in our day you were only entitled to some food, a hot shower, and a roof...and some clothes, probaBLY hand me downs, but new if things were ok. This guys approach i applaud, probably a little subdued by my tastes but as breadwinner and provider, HE has entitlement as well, that is truly well earned.

I don't see the big deal about shooting the laptop! After all who bought it, and for what purpose? There is a follow up report on this where the dad and the daughter sat down and talked about all what happened and she came clean and realized she did a very basic wrong thing! I posted it on another post about this! Before anyone says too much go read it please! She knows dad loves her!

Yikes!... The Dad has a point but Treating a child who is disrespectfull with complete and total humiliation?.. Thats not good parenting.  What the hell!  Is he 17 himself?...  Ground her, do what he needs but he himself needs to show some maturity.

Good post guys..

Sorry Pete, completely disagree with you.  I follow the principle that if my kids are disrespectful in public they will be disciplined in public.  That kid posted her comments on her facebook page!  I don't think it gets more public then that.
