I still have a problem with my pc recognizing anything over 4 gb of memory. I doesn't read it yet when I scan it it shows there are 4 slots and only 2 are working and it doesn't matter which pair of slots I have them in it only recognizes 4 gb. When I started my pc up the first time after the installation it said to go to the cmos and save the settings of the new cpu but I didnt so what does that mean also. Maybe that is the problem IDK> Please help

I hope I have the right terminology for what I saw>

No I tried too but it wouldn't update. The website support said the the cpu and the mobo were not compatible. So I bought a new cpu that the website said is compatible and now this.

have you tried resetting and reconfiguring your bios?

what mobo are you using? standard mobos these days can support at least 8 gigs of ram without a problem. are all your ram chips the same make and model? if not then you could have compatibility issues.

are the other two slots dead? have you tried removing the ram in those slots and putting the recognised ones in those slots?

is your bios configured to read the ram as dual channel or single channel. some mobos i've noticed when you have two of the same ram chips will configure dual channel and then only 2 gigs will be recognised ie. you might have 2 x 2gig chips and when in dual channel it recognises both chips but will only give you the 2 gigs access because they are running parallel to each other to increase speed (best example is raid mirroring where you have 2 x 40gig hdd then only 40 gig is recognised for storage and the secondary hdd is an exact mirror of the first) and then in single channel mode it will give you full access to the 2 x 2gig as 4 gig ram.

also does you cpu fsb match a supported fsb on the mobo? does the ram run at the same speed as the fsb? your fsb could be 1066mhz but your ram might be running at 800 mhz. there's a major slow down for you.

It recognizes the present memory regardless which slots they are in. I have put the new one in and the added the older ones and the older ones aren't recognized. As far as the updated bios I believe I do need to do that as the bios on my new cpu is exactly the same as the older one. Now the last part of what you are saying doesnt sem to be true here because my hardware analizer only reads the 4gb but nothing happens when I put them all in it just does nothing the cpu is running but nothing happens no screen display or anything like that my mobo is a M3N HT delux ASUS!

okay I just did a scan and found out my bios is still the same as it was on the old one. Jeff I need your help!!!!! Please!!! LOL!

ok dean what Ause said they would not help because of the cpu. We need to call them again as the bios file they have on the web site is not correct. So let me see what time I get home and we can call again.

What file format was the file we found... not a .rom like we need. If you want to try and call Ause and reopen our ticket that might help. Look up the number again and see if you can get them to help. Just explain this to them the following....

I have 8 gb of memory but my system only sees 4gb. All memory is the same type. Remember they would not help due to the incorrect cpu as the MOBO did not support that chip. Now you have a correct one you still need to update the bios.

The BIOS is old and the file on their web sites is not a .rom file. I forgot the file type it was but it was wrong.

That should fix the issues or the mobo has a flaw and they best fix it. :)

"FYI the .rom is Read Only Memory and hold the information even when you shut off your system. It is the initial programs that ties all the hardware together and allows your system to function. "

my info.. as I think the ticket is in my name.

If they give you shit call me and I will try and talk to them before I get home.... just make the initial contact to save time. I did not save that number for them. :)

This was my 5000th post. :) I saved myself for you Dean. Now take me...... hahaha

btw did the place you got the pc from get you the new CPU? or did you go buy it?

Hey Dean reset your bios to its default settings. Enter your bios go to the exit tab press enter then select I think its load default settings select that option and save and go out. Now even the default value should read all 4 slots for your ram. If it does not read it from the default settings my guess would be there a bigger issue. You might also try removing the bios battery for 10 minutes or so and then reinserting it and trying that out.

To test your mem sticks start with just one in the main slot. You notice the board has 2 different collours for the slots. Not sure what the main ones would be (my guess is the black ones ). check each stick one at a time. in the same slot. then make a pair of sticks and try them out in the same color slots switch them and try it again. Them just for fun do it all again in the blue slots never know ? then if the sticks al work try out all 4 at the same time.

Are you really sure its not 32 bit ??

After all that then you can try out a new bios.

at BOOT the system does not see the memory so 32 64 128 whatever will not matter. What makes anyone think that matters. The system has no idea nor care what bit you os is if you cant get past the bios. humm....

You can try reseting the bios dean but it wont fix it but dont be testing each stick and stuff. You have tested that enough to know it is not the memory.

So make the phone call for the new bios. we do that first.. .then move forward.

Maybe I missed something, but I see no mention of some important critcal factors:

1) Motherboard mfg and model.

2) Memory modules brand and model. (each one)

3) CPU model

You made it sound like a "no POST" (Pre-Operation Self Test) condition with all 4 memory slots populated.

Testing one module at a time in the same slot (slot 1) is excellent advice. You cannot narrow down the entire problem to being just one of the modules by taking pairs in and out. One bad module can cause a no POST or other odd behavior like having the system not see the memory correctly. You could also have a bad slot. After you've verified each module one at time, then use one module in each of the slots.

If the system is POSTing fine with 2 modules, you should run Memtest86 on them to verify they work correctly. Once those check out, swap out for the other two modules and run the test on them. This will at least eliminate RAM as being the problem before you try all this stuff with the mobo.

i agree with hxtr it seems like a bios issue. once you get thatr updated youll know if its a memory issue cause theyre pretty good about makin sure that new bios are compatible with all the diff kinds of memory. if you update the bios and are still having trouble i would say your memory is not compatible or it is faulty. you say that no matter where you put it it still gets recogognized so it seems like your mobo is good. oh and check cpu-z and see if it reads all modules if not then im still leaning towards bios or a memory compatibilty issue. ive had a few to drink so forgive my spelling, but either way thats what i think

" I started my pc up the first time after the installation it said to go to the cmos and save the settings of the new cpu but I didnt"

so you ignore this and instead post hey what do i do now??

seriously?

and what operating system?xp win7 vista win 2000???

always start with the basics/clear cmos and reset bios

so first

unplug unit .take out battery for 10 minutes or short between pos and neg if ya can,put battery back in plug in unit and start get into into bios on mine i hold delete down till bios comes up.on rt side go to load failsafe default.f10 and save y .reboot

very impotant-if your not sure what to mess with in bios then do only this.
