I watched the opening ceremonies yesterday and thought that London,Engaland did a great job.Very intense spectacular fireworks display, just beautiful and the lighting of the petals and the way they rose up to create the Olympic cauldron was just awsome. The Industrial Revolution scene was also awesome with all the chimney stacks,I 'd have to say one of the grandest openings I've ever seen Nice work and well done UK Bravo.

I agree, not talking from a biased point of view either, I think the world forgets the good we have given to the world, music, invention, and yes the set pieces were amazing!

Bah humbug! I boycotted it...

Did you know the Government has raided £425 million from the Big Lottery Fund to pay for the 2012 Olympics?

The Big Lottery Fund supports charitable projects that help communities and people in need across the UK. £425 million could have funded over 10,000 charities!

Nothing surprises me from this lot that is in power, i read that they even wanted the National health tribute taken out of the ceremony because it was a bit embarrassing with all the cuts they were making, also Danny Boyle got another dig at them too , he had a segment with the Jarrow Marchers and the Grimethorpe colliery band in there, i know what you saying Deejay but at the end of the day it wasn't about them tossers, it was for the people of the UK

Fuck me guys, lets be positive!

BTW, we won this bid bfore the shit hit the fan.

All the time we put ourselves down as a country,no wonder we are shrinking!

You wonder why the Chinese are rushing ahead, it is because of their positive attitude and having the will to want to win and do well.

We are only putting the Government down Heff, they will try to take all the plaudits for this just to try to get one small chink of light out of this very dark tunnel they are taking us deeper into, they pay millions to a security company that fucks up and cannot or are not willing to get the money back, we have more soldiers on duty at these Olympics doing this company's job then we have in Afghanistan, when this is over they will be putting many of these soldiers out of work, bet the Chinese ain't reducing their armed forces. Anyway i was looking at the bright side of these games as i said earlier.

Heff', I would refer everyone to an ancient practice of Roman emperors who sought to appease the population by the funding of games. The term "bread and circuses" has endured through the ages and it is explained here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bread_and_circuses

SOB, the architect of this corrupt funding arrangement was Gordon Brown, then Chancellor of the Exchequer, so none of the political elite emerges with honour.

Lol, "them tossers".

I'd remember that England is on the world stage, and there are things the British do better than anyone else. Putting on spectacle and ceremony is a forte of the UK. Been nice if they would have fired HMS Belfast's six-inchers in salute, but ya can't have everything.

Cheers!

Gonna have to pop a pint of Fullers today while watching.

ESB, like my beer with flavor! Mostly drink high hop content pale ale's & Ipa's. When we were in London, it broke my heart how good the draughts were. You have no idea how good you have it in England (beer wise). It would crush you to come here and have to order a Miller lite on draft......ick!. Our craft beer is finally getting somewhere, and you can get a good draft of beer, but you have to look for it.

Still rather be sitting in Kensington, having a pint of Fullers, freshly pulled, watching the crowds go by........sigh.

Alas, the visitors to the Olympic venues had better have a taste for fizzy Dutch lager... The beer of the Games is Heineken!

Another disgusting example of the way corporate sponsorship has decided the way that the guests are refreshed.

(My current favourite IPA, by the way, is Thornbridge Jaipur - do look out for that one!)

Deejay I agree with you on a lot of what you said its true our government stinks....

But after watching that last night it reminded me of why I am proud to be British..

The whole spectacle was a reminder of the hard work and excellence that our great nation has done over the years...

And even with our government screwing us over costantly I do not give a damn because it was the British People who worked there arses off to produce the whole thing and it will be the British People who will make these Games fantastic.

So screw our Government LETS CELEBRATE THE BLOODY HARD WORKING BRITISH PEOPLE....

Heineken? Oh my, that just won't do. No, not at all. At least they mentioned John Smiths bitters in the vid. Have to visit a company store if all you are offered is heinie in the free pubs.

Thanks for the Thornbridge tip, probably rarer than hen's teeth here, but I'll give it a go!
