Hay All,

Kind of disappointing but I will go under the knife on April 12th for shoulder rotator cuff surgery. They also found two other bad tears near the rotator cuff as well. Doc says it will take two and a half to three months to heal. I'm preety bumbed out about it. Was really looking forward in this years golf game and summer. I will at least catch the tail end of summer anyways. I'm sure I'll be out of game as well. But I still will be hear on a regular basis. Maybe I can win a poker tourny or two. lol

If anyone has some advice or has gone through this...thoughts would be welcome.....

Peace!!

Tough deal Title... I asume its a full tear... There actually is 4 tendons that make up the cuff... How many did you tear if i may ask?    Im do MRI's and radiology, we see this all the time.

Not sure Pete. He showed me one rotator cuff tear and two others. I don't think the other two where part of the rotator cuff.

I had that surgery less than 2 years ago , make sure you do the therapy . It really took almost a full year to heal ,rotor cuff, bone sper and calcium growth though the tendon. Good Luck !!

HXTR thanks bud but I'm right handed and it's my left shoulder. Plus I wouldn't want to lock the dogs up for any long period of time. But Thanks anyways...

Bummer, you have my sympathies since I also have an apparent rotator cuff injury. At this point mine can not be fully determined because I can not have an MRI because of metal chips in my eye. I did have an ultrasound test but it was inconclusive. Living with it is tough especially in trying to sleep in a semi comfortable position.

Hurt the darn thing putting luggage into the back of my SUV on a business trip. Pain when it happened almost put me on my knees.

I have seen the very best available specialists in my area, (Rothman Institute) and what is also a little disappointing is that at my age, almost 70, I have been cautioned that the success rate is drastically lower than for a younger person. And as Power said, I was also advised should I have surgery the therapy will require a lot of dedication.

So for now it's Cortisone injections and seeing if time helps.

Golf game is also on hold. :no

Yes title, there are 4 tendons that make up the rotator cuff, usually most people will tear more than one. Total tear spells surgery while partial tears they tend to leave alone.

Cortisone into the sub acromial space will help short term, they may even do a main GH joint injection since the tear opens to both the sub ac space and joint.

Also severe arthritus in the acl joint. I wore the bone down a bit. I think they are going to saw off a little chunk to open it up. If that makes sence to you.

Thats the AC Joint.. Short for acromial-clavicular joint.. When you hear of someone dislocating their shoulder, thats the joint. If you OA (osteo-arthitis) there is not much they can do for that. Cortisone in that joint will help but only for several months. You can have repeated injections in that joint BUT they must be at a minimum of 3 months apart.

Yellow, take everyone's advice and do the therapy.  I had mine done 2 years ago and came through fine.  It is better now than before.  now my other shoulder is torn, but I am holding off until the pain gets worse.  I had a cortizone shot that helped, so maybe I can wait a bit longer.  It is not fun, and the shoulder is one of the hardest things to rehab, but definitely DO YOUR THERAPY!!  You don't want scar tissue to build up.  Good luck buddy.
