I've called and called AT&T and nothing has ever been fixed. I went to their site and began ranting on their forums, along with many other people who have the exact same problem. I just received a call from the "Social Media Department". Okay? They asked what the problem was and are now "escalating my issue to the 'Executive Tech Department" in hopes of getting it resolved. Whatever that means. lol It will be interesting to see what goes down now. The guy didn't bother going through the usual idiocy of resetting the modem or the other stupid stuff they normally tell me. baldie, CobraBites, ENG4INE and 1 other 4 Awards

But when I go to their public forums, suddenly my issue is being escalated??? I love reading their forums and seeing that we're not the only ones. People all over the country have the exact same problem that we do and they get the same run around. http://forums.att.com/t5/Internet-DSL-General-Care-and/bd-p/internet-General_Care Regardless of who they "escalate" the issue to, it's not going to be fixed. They are focused on the new Uverse service (fiber optics) and they don't care about the old DSL customers. Once they get Uverse to my area, they will raise the price and require us to sign a contract. Awards

When the ping goes to 999.. it's pretty much over. It's also why I haven't been in game too much in the past months. I can look at HLSW, at the server pings, and tell whether it's even worth it to try to game or not. It will get resolved at some point, one way or another... $2K for cable not really looking so bad at this point. CobraBites 1 Awards

I fought AT&T for several years over our DSL speed and it was never fixed, regardless of who it was "escalated" to. We paid for up to 6 mbps service and rarely got more than 3, and even then there were constant spikes and outages. I grew very tired of talking to some service rep in India that barely spoke Engish and told me to reset my modem. They finally installed lines for their fiber optics in our area last month, so I'll wait and see how things shake out over the next year or so then maybe change back. We finally changed to cable, and while the speed is much faster (22 mbps) it had little or no effect on my ping playing COD. But the outages are much better although we still get spikes frequently. Good luck, I hope it works out for you and Bama. Awards

Bama, a lot of people in just about all areas have been having major ping issues over the last few months. If you do a tracert test to the IP address of the server you play on, it will show you exactly where the signal is getting hung up, and I'll bet it's not just on your end. Our main DM and TDM servers on COD2 are near Chicago, and most of the latency I was (and still am) experiencing was in the Chicago area. Window and Bullet who live not far from Chicago have had ping issues as well, and they usually have the fastest speeds of anybody playing on those servers. Conspiracy theorists think it's the NSA bugging the lines, and a year ago I would have said that was nuts. Now, nothing would surprise me. Rugger just set up a new server for our upcoming TDM tournament and it's in LA (SoCal). My ping is finally down in the 20's since it's closer to me, and everybody else in other areas have 50 to 90 ping, but it doesn't seem to effect their game much or improve my play at all. Good luck, I hope it works out for you and Bama. I really think this is all intentional. We pay for 1.5 mb but rarely get anywhere close to that. Last night, I was downloading a map at 38 kb. We had one technician tell us that AT&T is intentionally throttling the connections in order to frustrate customers so that they will be willing to switch to the new service once it's available. They don't have to be so mean as we'd be more than willing to switch if faster speeds were available. However, because I don't trust AT&T to deliver what they say, I am not willing to sign a contract. I don't expect our pings to improve but faster speeds would definitely help us feel better about our service. Web surfing has become so frustrating for us. Forget watching YouTube videos at our house. A 1 or 2 minute video will take at least 10 minutes to watch. In recent months, TeamSpeak is a big frustration. I only hear bits and pieces of conversations. I suggest to anyone considering AT&T service to visit their forums and see what other customers are saying. I have not looked at their fiber optic forums yet. Edited October 31, 2013 by BurnnBright Awards

I just got a call from the super duper tech support guy, Robert. He's "investigating the neighborhood" to see what's going on. He agrees that it's definitely a service problem. Wow! If I had known that I needed to rant publicly two years ago, I would have done so. Oh wait. I did rant 2 years ago but apparently I got their attention this time. He said "Yeah. Our Social Media Department is very good." He is supposed to call back between 6:30 and 7:30 pm tonight. He warned that our service may go on and off this afternoon but I said "That's normal for us." When 3G is strong, I actually can play pretty good.. pings around 150.. but 150 stable is much better than bouncing from 60 to 999. 3G signal isn't very good here though, so it's hit and miss. Awards

Yes Pops it was the NSA dropping sniffers on the servers not my own thought but rather what was reported to me by our own Cod2 servers sites....Here is another funny thing I am working on a problem right now with someone who has AT&T Dsl and guess where there first hop goes a fucking Sniffer/tracker site not to mention the fact that AT&T handles the hops 4 times with in its own servers and passes it through Virginia then back to chicago when it is coming out of Illinois in the first place ....Go figure EDIT >>. If anyone wants to do a tracert on there connection you have to use command prompt Start/Programs/Accessories/Command prompt ..... then type in tracert (space) server Ip and press enter It will show you how many hops you make and record ping at each hop and show each hops Ip address.... Next you can do a Ip traceroute on the Ip,s to see who handles that Ip at each Hop Edited October 31, 2013 by loaderXI Blackbart 1 Awards
