I use AVG on all my computers, no problems in 3 years. Along with AVG, I use Malwarebytes and CCleaner.  Do most of my downloading for programs from C-Net. Curious to see what others use as well. TooT

I've used AVG Free for years on all OS's from Win ME to Win7 and never had a problem, the main thing to remember is that no matter how good your antivirus it can't protect you from yourself,

I really like AVG free.  I can't count the number of times it has saved my computer from alot of virus attacks by quickly removing them before they have a chance to get started.  It's a very good program.

dont be lazy.. go to www.youtube.com and type in AVG free and you should see a list of them to view.. then write down the code and insert in in the register optionon the AVG program.

Just my two cents but, another to consider is Microsoft Security Essentials. It's and anti virus and spyware and adware in one. it has a small footprint so it doesnt hurt system speed. It has a simple interface and has scheduled scanning. I have used avg and had used avast for years i ran it with ccleaner and malewarebytes. with MSE when i run ccleaner or malewarebytes they normally find no problems. its sweet.

I know the topic's a bit old now but anyone else who's searching for the right AV program may find this link of use.  Virus Bulletin puts all the major programs to the test on a monthly basis (at least most companies - some don't like others testing and judging their wares!): http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archive/results?display=summary

NB:  Free registration is required to view the results and one can opt to take their AV/malware newsletter.

Having tried a few products over the years, I rate AVG and have bought a three-machine licence for the paid version.  I found Bullguard - a product that is punted with many vendors' new machines in the UK - resource-hungry and somewhat problematic, personally.  McAfee?  Well, I vowed never to have any of their software on a machine of mine again!  Total reinstallation tends to put one off using their products!!!

i have a friend that got a whole system infected with AVG, impossible to get rid of the shit, i wouldnt trust it.

wife got Avast, and its annoying as hell.

i personally use NOD32, well ESET SMART SECURITY, its not free, but no others can be that good.

will never use norton ever again or anything else.

thing is AVG seems to be the most trusted free anti-virus out there.

but not for me
