What does everyone use? Can demos from console be converted into a format that can be edited and posted online? I want to make a video but don't want to use fraps etc because it drops my frame rate. Any suggestions or help appreciated! Cheers! ;)

I use fraps or xfire.... unfortunately all recorders will drop your frame rate the key is to find what rate and quality you can record for minimum effect. COD4 demos are not convertable

Make a demo, play it back, and try OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) to capture the window and save to a file. Never tried it with the cod4player but it should work. Lots of settings you can use to make a choice between quality and size etc. I used it to make the in-game demo for Fraghouse Invasion if you saw that thread a few days ago. It was limited to 30 fps (OBS can go up to 60) but youre not going to need more than that for demos anyways. Not recommended for low end machines. The format is x264 so if you want to do things like edit use avidemux to export it as another format if your editor cant handle that codec.

I didn't see the fraghouse invasion thread but I will look at it now. If the OBS can capture the cod4 player window that would be ideal. I will investigate after work and see. I have upgraded to higher end pc since using fraps last so I will try again just to see. Maybe it won't be that bad now. Thanks fellas!

Hmmm, maybe.

I just realized that in the kneeling position my body looks kind of like a swastika.

The quality was set to average when compressing it for youtube but the original is much better.

Nitro use the built-in record function. Once finished, play the demo and use X-fire or Raptr from AMD to record the demo you just recorded. This way you don't have to worry about losing frame rates and you can play with the quality of the video too. Kludgy? Sure, but you have more control over recording options.

I made this after I recorded the whole thing...

Also GTX cards using GeForce Experience have a thing called "Shadowplay" which uses inbuilt chip that records in background. Doesn't muck around with frame rates at all!

I use it recording Arma 2 and DayZ and the quality is terrific.

The size of file recorded can be pre-set anywhere from 240p to 1080p and up to 20 minutes back.

Manual recording is also available for longer periods.

It records all in game sound + your mic.

I used FRAPS before this but did find it used a fair bit of PC resources.
