Okay yesterday my hard drive freaked out on me and I couldn't get it back up. So I borrowed one from my brother, put it in, installed windows on it and grrr I'm having problems with the dvd drive it's omggg so slow and I can't get it to work right.

What I want to know is there a way I can take my waw game folders from the old drive. ( the old drive shows on the list and I can access it and see the files and folders, pictures etc) and copy it over to the new drive? I've tried what I know and so far I suck at it. I'm probably just doing it wrong or missing a step.

So can anyone tell me how to do it ? if it can be done? and work right?  Once I get my new hard drive I'll have to do all this over so I really don't want to move more than I have to.

you never know, my pc might have been slumming... problem is booting it up on the old hard drive, it won't do it. So I can't scan that drive for errors  and now on this hard drive the old one shows but the smaller partition on the old drive shows nothing there and says it needs formatting. So I don't know what to do with it, any thoughts ?

1. install waw on the new drive.

2. copy both waw folders from the old drive and overlay (paste) them on/into the new installation folders of the new drive.

works like a champ - done this many times myself.

Cat what exactly happens when you start your computer. Do you see the bios screen or is it all dark ?

Sounds like the boot sectors got scrambled somehow. What duck said to do will take care of the waw stuff. Sorry your hd crashed.

when I start the old one , it comes up a with a msg, something like a usb mass storage device was unplugged to soon or a device, dvd rom or hard drive is failing. I'm thinking maybe it's the dvd drive instead of the hard drive cause it wont work right and I can't get the dvd to install the game even with the new hard drive. you think maybe I should try putting in a different dvd drive and the old hard drive? do you think that would work?

If it starts and you can get into your bios. Change the load sequence from dvd / usb / hard drive to hard drive first  It called start up or something similar to that.

I did that when the old one was in, and it didn't help. grrr.. now it's wanting to act up with the new drive in, I'm beginning to wonder if it's not the dvd anyway? I have another one I can put in it.

Can you boot it in SAVE Mode?

If you do that you can open : regedit and export all of it on a other drive. By that you can find all your game keys and such to open the REG file by Notepad++/PSPad.

If you have a USB drive, you can clean it up and run the setup Windows from there.

Unplug everything from your motherboard but the bare essentials - leave the power supply and the hard drive only plugged in.  Boot your computer up.  If it works ok then plug something else into the board and boot it up again.  Keep going until your hard drive messes up.  I have run across this problem before.

Hope this helps you cat.

Oops, nevermind - didn't see your last post.
