Thats ridiculous ?? why would you say that ?? I personally prefer on board sound , And I use analog headphones..I have tried different sounds cards and they didn't make any different and most weren't as could as the on board ..Plus you have to set them up and hope they are compatible with your motherbaord..I have seen me spend money and hours setting them up with out any better sound at all..some come with a good software package if thats what your looking for . Years ago that might of been trues , But not for the last at least the last 8 years on board sound is pretty good , the only exception if your into very high end music ,Then a very high end sound card is needed ..But then there's catch to that as well , since most of us use mp3's , your not going to get good quality sound from them .. And if your talking about the Realtek , I have never had a problem ...And that was a long time ago Ok this just my opinion from my experience .. The forums are full of the onboard sound problems for COD4 . Just search for iw3mp.exe error in these forums or on the net . The problem is there and still very much alive. Mule asked for advice and if he plays COD4 my advice is to get a sound card or use an usb setup. Or take the chance that the problem is gone. As I recall my solution to that problem was to just use a usb mic. So he can use onboard sound and a usb mic. But again thats just one of the many solutions to the sound problem. But again sound cards are much cheaper then a good usb mic. So thats my advice and thats all that is. Mule 1 Awards

But considering the huge amount of space on drives I tend to rip stuff with flac. So yea if the music itself is really good... not the hiphop stuff of today nor Miley.. a sound card can make a difference. As they say, garbage in garbage out. If however most of your music is from streaming or things like itunes purchases the onboard sound is fine. Oh and it also certainly depends on how good your headphones or speakers are. Awards

Some mainboard sound, utilizes Wolfson/Burr Brown chips, but usually high end boards. Burr-Brown ADC/DAC's are nice sounding. I find most onboard audio chips lack-luster in audio handling, both game and music. But that's just me. Game performance (FPS), not much difference if any. Its all in the sound quality (fidelity). So you will hear better game detail with a SB card installed. That's been proven time and time again. More audio detail. If you run Windows 7 you wont have any problems with the driver. If you are going to be using a USB headset I wouldn't worry about it. Sorry but its fact. It all boils down to the "digital to analog converters" or "analog to digital" converters (same, just depends on what your doing). Separate high end sound cards use better ADC/DAC chips and that produces better explosions and such with games. Not to mention better audio playback. Now headphone/speaker choice makes a difference also. There are a lot of variables. But you want a good ADC/DAC and amp that can drive whatever you listen on. And many times. motherboard sound is not up to par. Awards
