What Freezetag Srv 1 to keep

Please vote on what Freezetag Srv 1 do we wanna keep. I made another Freeze 1 because of all the lag and CI's on 8.12.22.50 but now I see people still playing on that server instead of the new one. Just a little confused on what server to keep running, I was going to close down 8.12.22.50 at the end of this month but if its working fine now there is no need to make a change.

good queston rugger... not sure if lag was better in the new one or not and I hear peeps still say lag was bad at times when populated. I think some just have not gotten the new IP and are following everyone esle. Zoe treid to tell us one day but everyting at that time was peachy. Maybe shutting the old one down will do the trick. People will follow the crowd.

I think people are still going to the old server because some still don't know we changed over, i keep a watch out during the day and redirect as many as i can, i say keep the new server purely a selfish thing for me ie my ping rate is about 30 points lower then on the other server, i have heard certain people moan about lag on the new server but not as many as were moaning on the old server yet

Yep, keep the new one!

I'm not lagging anymore (instead of some screen lags at the first 5 - 10 minutes..) and the only reason some are still playing on the old one is that both come up when you look for the xi ftag1 server and most of them don't know which one is the new and which one the old.

But whenever i see some on the old server, I tell them to switch, give them the new ip and it worked that way pretty good the last days.

If the new one gives the UK/Europe players a slightly better ping...then we should keep it

my ping is on the new server not better, its now 190 instead of 170 on the old but that makes no difference for me.

but i have no lags or ci´s on the new server and that is really great.

for the problem that a few guys still plays on the old one i made a bind wich says: "new ftag-server1 is up ->ip.......:...."

and if i do that on the old svr a few switch over to the new one.

i think when the old server is terminated the rest will come over on the new.

It was great at first then the last night it was so choppy for me, I just had to get out.

I am going to more then likely reformat my PC this week and show my kid how the procees works.

then I will have a clean system to try again and see what happends. I will also try today and see if I get the same issue.

The Only issue I seem to get is when you have some high ping players, I know when they are close to me in the game, I start lagging a bit more   I find that in both server 1's at the moment. I guess what I am trying to say in 100 words or less... is they are both the same for me.

Hi guys, played on the new one for the first time this week. I must say for me it is worse, ping is higher and there is screenlag the first minutes.

Maybe the rate is set incorrectly ? In the lagometer is see that the bottom green line is too thick. However the old server has more packetloss, so it's a mixed result for me.

I believe Europeans are getting far higher pings on the newer server than the 8.12.22,I for one would prefer too play on 8.12.22.

then change server 2 into server1(old) so the guys who want server 1 can still have it...i love server 1 old and never had an issue.

the new 1 runs o.k. except my ping keeps jumpin high.

New Sever 1 blows (208.100.0.133) pings bouncing from 99-124ms lagometer shows heavy thick green with frequent yellow at best and heavy yellow during spike times, the 25ms ping jump is very noticeable and sub-standard.

 

 

Old Sever 1 (8.12.22.50) still better even now without being completely fixed then the new server, pings from 67-78ms light green with an occasional thick green with a yellow spike here and there.

 

Typically I won't even play on a server with a ping over 100ms but absolutley never over 120ms, which is how I found XI in the first place, but I gave it a shot anyway and my test confirmed my rule was still valid, just doesn't have the gameplay quality or potential I am looking for.

 

Side note, tracert for some reason is redirecting to 208.68.139.38 from Portland to Denver to Chicago and then Boston for some reason comcast is redirecting to their NXDOMAIN intercept. Since they just recently won that internet court case they can legally prioritize types of data and bandwidth anyway they want so I'm a little suspicious if the problems are related.

Have been quite busy recently so not had much time to game,  as well as having issues with my service provider,  this means i haven't been able to check out the servers to compare properly,   so i haven't voted yet,  hope to do so this coming weekend.

Used to have my own gameservers, so i know it's hard to try and satisfy everyone. It'can be a lot of work and it's not always appreciated.

I won't go into too much detail but it's all to do with routing tables within the routers which tell the traffic which direction next to take.  The number of routers it goes through is known as the number of hops it has to take.  The less number of hops the quicker the traffic will get there, and the lower your ping will be.

 

You can see this by doing a "trace route" to the IP address in question.  open a command prompt and type "tracert 8.12.22.50" without the quotes, then hit return.  Do the same with the 208.100.0.133.

 

I have added mine below.  Traffic will always try to take the quickest route, however as you see from mine below that one of the routers tried a specific path which didn't exist.  It then looks at the routing table it has been configured with, and trys an alternative route, which can be longer.  As a consequence, the old server had one extra hop than the new one, and the new server for me is some 5-10 ping lower.

 

I know that either Stormcrow or Iron were getting a ping of 40 on the old server and on the new server about 95-105.  After doing a trace route he went from 2 hops to 7 (approx).

 

So you are correct in one respect, that depending on your ISP will depend on which route to take (some taking extra hops).  It also depends on distance, so if the old server was on the West Coast, and the new one on the East Coast, then the distance to the new one will be less, and subsequently less hops to take.

I think my ping is higher on the new server, but if the old one crashes, that is even worse.  I think reliability is more important.
