I am just about ready to give up. I have been having this same damned problem for over 2 months and it comes like clock work every week. I have a really good connection and all hardware is new and from out of nowhere it really starts lagging and continues to do so no matter what I do until about 4 days go by then it miraculously starts working again.I have tried everything and even uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled new ones and yet it persists. I really need help here. I also tried it with the new network adapter I bought and installed but then I lost all network connection. A pop-up said something to the effect that the address was not proper and something else. I tried to take a screen shot and it nwon't post it here for me so you all could see it. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And if you cannot plug in another computer, what does pingplotter tell you as you ping various servers?

Run pingtests and speedtests on all devices connected to the router you are using. If you have the same problem on all devices, your router / modem / isp cause the issue.

If you have established it is only one computer being affected, right click on the taskbar - task manager - click more details - then the 2nd tab from teh left and check if your CPU or RAM or HDD is busy. If so, click on Resource Monitor at the bottom and check which process is causing it.

Do you have a wireless router? Check to see if anyone is stealing your bandwidth.

Around here the speed for my connection can fluctuate pretty wildly depending on the time of day and which day. The growth in the number of users in my area has outpaced upgrades in the infrastructure and as always when everyone hops on then speeds drop. Late afternoon and early evenings are the worst especially when everybody is streaming or playing games. After 11pm-12am speed is pretty consistent.

Kinda funny but when I go to bed and its really late I often see some minor activity on my modem. I have occasionally turned on the computer to make sure my signal wasnt being stolen. Even tho access is limited by MAC address. Turns out it was likely either my streaming box (even tho it was put to sleep) or my DVR. Do you by chance have the Amazon streaming box? It had a bug with one of the screensaver settings where instead of using the pictures already stored it would continually stream images.

I was so frustrated by this that I was about to get my shotgun out and have my fun that way. A while ago I had a thought so I started looking into the set up of my motherboard. I found an app there that I had enacted but didn't know what it was until I looked at it and the times this was happening was all marked internet restrictive. I clicked all the blue X's and turned them all off and rebooted and for now it nworked and I am back in the game. Thanks guysb for all your suggestions as regardless how they sounded I was frustrated enough to try them. You guys are awesome! Thanks again!

This is from their site:

ASRock Online Management Guard (OMG)

Fast, Easy and Free – ASRock OMG technology allows you to establish an internet curfew or restrict internet access at specified times. Administrators are able to schedule the starting and ending hours of internet access granted to other users. Normally, ISPs (Internet Service Provider) will charge for internet curfew service, which controls "all" the PCs connected at home. However, ASRock OMG is a free tool for controlling internet access of each single PC. Parents can easily control internet access through the BIOS setup to protect their kids from using the Internet at inappropriate times, and meanwhile, enjoy their own internet space.

That's good to hear damage. I had similar problems for 2 years. Had 3 routers, upgraded internet, nada. Finally I snapped, told wife I'm changing suppliers. She wasnt happy but she didn't have to put up with it. Anyway, BT(New) suppliers have a courtesy call to virgin(old) and they phoned and asked for a two day reprieve to fix. Took 3 days, but it was a connector on back our router do for years of frustration have me super speed for a third of the price.

Are you on a 56k modem connected to a phone line?  If so, someone might be sending a fax when your connection gets bad.  After about 4 days, if there were a lot of pages to the fax, it would clear the buffer and your computer would be fast as molasses again.
