The latest patch

The much anticipated patch came down the wire on start-up, this morning, and I was hopeful that my crash-every-third-game problem might have been fixed.

 

The first game crashed at its conclusion - a step backwards, I thought, and, for me a game-killer.  I went into the Steam forums and found a suggestion that one should verify the game cache from within Steam so I did so.  No apparent problems were detected so I ran GBoost to shut down unnecessary processes and tried again.

 

Initial results were favourable - the game did not crash during the third game but I played on into a fourth and then a fifth!  Hooray, I thought...  But then the game froze as soon as the sixth game loaded.

 

I hope that others have fared better.  The slow process of attrition continues.  I saw the Head of Development from Treyarch interviewed in a lengthy Gamespot video and he spoke of how they had designed the game to remove "the grind".  Well, they've failed in that respect, certainly, because each day that passes sucks the love for this game out of me...  I don't think I have ever played such a faulty computer game and I have been playing them for 25 years!

 

If it isn't fixed properly soon, I'm going to walk away from it.

for my part the game did crashed a lot before patch, now i still havent play enough to check if it still crash

I have a Radeon 4870 here.  It may be making way for something better early next year but not with CoD BO specifically in mind.

One of my favourite marble blasting games has just had a 5th anniversary edition released (Luxor) so I may be spending more time on that than recovering from crashes!

i've had two Errors since release and that was about 3 days ago when i hit Alt+tab to minimize the game and that error appeard because of a memory loss, so nithing very serious . it is really hard for us admins to try and help since we dont know what you guys might be doin wrong and if not then how/when and why these errors come up ... what i suggest is, get all your drivers thru updates and see if that helps.

I have a radeon 5830, and now i just tried to play Black Ops for the first time today and i'm getting a message saying "the game is currently unavailable please try again at another time" wtf is going on now, how patient do they expect us to be with this fucking game

all i know is ...is that after yesterday when they updated .i started to lag so bad i could not even play the game ..be for the update i have every little lag at all if any ..not when you try to shot .you can forget the kill as you are not putting out the shots ..1 shot then lag then it will shoot again but you are dead buy the time you get the 3 rd  and with a auto that sucks .i tryed playing single player thinking it was the internet but now i lag in single player too ..never did be for

I had no lag before this last patch.Now everytime I want to shoot someone in front of me I get hesitation.All drivers are updated.Stop making excuses for this FUCKED UP GAME.We shouldn't have to mess around with config files.Just come out and say the game is a piece of shit spawn killing, can't log in by IP.I'm giving up.CWHC much more fun for me.Guys are coming back into COD 5 just bitching and cpmplaining about this BO(stinky) game.

My game is running great.  I have no problems other then occassion crash or lag spike.  Dont think it is the game.

I'm darn sure it's the game. It's based off COD4 and COD5 game engine. None of us had issues with 4 or 5 , so there is no excuse for BO.

I run a HD5870, and in Badcompany 2 DX11 full details at 1680 X 1050, I never drop below 60 FPS...

It's not normal to get spikes and lags in BO, which is old tech game engine....jeez game full stops? ,server disconects booting everybody at once?

It's not our hardware. It's the combination of STEAM+VAC+TREYARCH marvelous work...dunno, GAMESERVER used to be reliable...I tend NOT to blame them for this mess...

When I was able to play, I noticed that it all depended on the server I was connected to.  I could have the same ping on 2 different servers and one would run like shit while the other ran fine.  It seems all the issues are on the server side.

Come on guys, I know it is discouraging but it will get better. Like Evool said, just make sure all of your drivers and shit are up to date. And there will be more shit, so sit back and have beer or smioke a bowl or whatever. It is not worth getting pissed off about it. IO had a few minor issues but that was a week ago. Except for the game crashing once in awhile.

Hell don't play for a week and come back and everything or close to it should be pretty well taken care of. Things may seem all fucked up on different setups, so it will take awhile to fix all of the shit. It has to be a damn nightmare on Steam's end or Treyarch or Activision trying to figure all of the shit out. Give them some credit and support, they are trying there damnest.

Think positive, why not, it is better than being frustrated and pissed off.

i dont get all the servers now, i guess im doing something wrong, was getting them all before.  dudes this is the second game that ive bought so im going to sure try and make this one work, shit i want to start playing a new game, shit.  i did a few small upgrades and it seems to be working pretty good, ive had one freeze up, and a few disconnects from servers, i know it aint my rig.  starting to miss the ole freeze tag and the bros though.

No, some of the servers are not show up.  One of our server went back to its default name.  hopefully will have it straightened out soon.

I can say it's not the game, simply because if it was the game everyone would have the same problem and we don't, in fact I have none.

 

I bought the game on opening night at 12:01am, got home loaded it up and tried multiplayer right away. Lag spikes/packet loss made the game unplayable.  A couple days later I read the forums here and went into my config file and changed multithread=0 to 1 and multigpu=1 to 0 and re-installed direct-x off the cd.  Loaded back in and boom, all problems are completely gone. This was prior to the first patch and now we have had two and I didn't need either one.

 

The game is completely silky smooth and beutiful and by far the best FPS gaming experience I have ever had.  I have had an occasional server crash, but it kicked everybody not just me (so thats the server).  I have also found that the in-game steam engine is a little buggy, sometimes the freinds list options to join or invite doesn't seem to work right, and sometimes it takes a few extra seconds to "download game settings" or "fetching stats". And I find it annoying that I can't find all servers at all times.

 

All that said, I'm sorry people are having some problems but I can tell you that except for a few steam buggy things here and there the game itself is perfect, I couldn't be happier with the gameplay.

 

I agree you shouldn't have to change the config file yourself it should auto-detect and that was crap, but an easy fix.  Secondly, most of the complaints I have heard so far are from people running Radeon instead of NVidia and I can only hope that they are not also running AMD machines as I am convinced AMD/ATI gaming days are over, and have been for some time.

 

I would HIGHLY recommend making those changes in your config files and put some pressure on your ATI guys to get their crap drivers right.

 

This is my system and like I said this game is perfect there is nothing wrong with it for me, and my video card is old and outdated btw.

                4GB DDR3 Ballistic Ram (8-8-8-24 timing)

(OLD ASS) Nvidia 8800 GTS (OC'd with a G92 core competes with a 9800pro and that helps but still old and outdated)

                 OS Win7 64bit

 

As a side note I NEVER play on a server with a ping above 150ms and below 100ms is preferred.   Hardware or Software Conflict or config file or Radeon paper weight, whatever the problem is I hope everyone having problems is able to get it sorted out but it's not the game.  Start with that config file change seriously.

Primalfear, as you say if it isn't the way the game has been coded that is causing the many thousands of us to have enduring problems, you clearly have a better idea as to what the problem could be?

 

I agree with SOB's view that assuming a problem is being caused by a system running the program is entirely erroneous when that system exceeds the published minimum specs, has up to date drivers and, in the case here, one of Intel's most recent and most powerful quad core processors (for which the game was supposedly optimised by the first disastrous patch).

 

Your assertion that it is a Radeon problem specifically doesn't hold water when there are benchmark test results on the web showing comparative performance scores.  If ATI cards could not run the game properly, the testing could not have occurred (I have seen no mention of Radeons falling over at the high resolutions and settings used for these tests, either).

 

It isn't acceptable to release a game for the PC market that is so poorly coded that it won't run properly on thousands of machines and then to dismiss valid customer criticisms with ridiculous advice such as to turn off ones antivirus.  If the game won't run properly alongside a massively popular security suite with a special gaming mode, it hasn't been tested properly.

 

I remain convinced that CoD BO has a memory leak as the freeze-ups are so regular and predictable.  Similar quantities of resources are being eaten away every session.  Imagine a toilet that is never flushed - eventually it fills up and overflows and has us crying "Shit!" again...

DeeJay, you nailed it. I don't think there's any question that it's a memory leak. The proof is that when BO completely stalls on my computer (it takes a few days but it eventually will reach this point) and I close it through Task Manager, if I then launch COD4 it, now, also stops dead in its tracks. The only thing that would affect other games on my system like that is a memory leak from BO.
