OK from the start,

My son had the parrot upstairs in his room, who spilt some juice on his PC. My son wiped it up then turn his PC on and it smelt of burning.

He turned it off and left it for a few hours, then turned it back on, the computer booted up, but without the beep and neither monitors would work.

I came in from work and we stripped the machine down, there was sticky residue on the memory and motherboard, so we cleaned everything. Unfortunately we bent some pins where the cpu sits

So bought another motherboard, and case. So here comes the problem,

there seems to be no power to the mother board. Corsair tx 650 wat PSU is working and has been checked by using a case fan, but when connected to the new motherboard there is nothing………….

I have disconnected everything ie memory, graphics, wireless cards so there is purely a motherboard cpu and heatsink fan nothing else.

Could the cpu be knackered?

Help is needed

Old motherboard was a ASUS P7P550-E

New motherboard is a Gigabyte P55A-UD3

Intel i5 cpu

it might be possible you have a bad motherboard. If it won't do anything at that is. possible don't have the switch wires plugged in the right spots. some boards are hard to see which way it supposed to go, double check that.

Ty,

Checked that, it tries to work with different PSU's but not working right, the cpu fan is slow and jerky, his PSU works great in my machine and our spare one so its not the PSU, baffled really am stumped.

Morris if your i5 is partly burnt it will show signs of it on the pads on the bottom of it.You have to look closely.

Here's one that got shorted out because of liquid spillage.

See the black ring around the pad? and the pad is partly dislodged.

The memory controller is built on the newer chips instead of in the NB/SB like the slightly older socket 775 chips.

So if you do spill something on a keyboard or an internal component then the CPU will take most of the brunt 1st as the memory and it's controller are 1st in like for all input devices.

The Gigabyte P55A-UD3 is i5 and i7 ready.

It is possible you got a bad board.I've been reading up on that board and there have been Alot of ppl getting they're P55A-UD3 boards DOA.Gigabyte boards don't like G-Skill memory either.I've had a P55A-"UD5" board that I had built up and it had major problems with G-Skill and Kingston memory.I ended up using 4x4 16gb Corsair memory.

I have upgraded to a newer board with UEFI bios (MSI Z77A-GD80) recently. We had a power surge and it fried the router and fried the Ethernet port on the Gigabyte.Luckily it only took out the Lan and not anything else.

I'de try reseating your CPU a couple times and try only 1 Stick of memory in slot 1 or slot 3.

Slot 2 is closest to the CPU then Slot 1 then Slot 4 then Slot 3.It's a rather strange arrangement for memory.

If you need the manual for your board here is a link to it.

Just because the board is i5/i7 readt doesn't mean you dont need to do a bios update. I had a customer build his own and couldn't get it to boot (same as yours). Hw brought it to me and after a lengthy discussion we did a bios update and viola!!

It's definitely worth updating the Bios on a new board.

I've had a few newer boards that needed to be updated but most were for the newer AMD FX chips. It's worth doing either way.

I use a small USB thumb drive to do Bios updates. It's fairly straight forward now a days with the vastly improved and simple to use Bios utilities.

Kenny

you only checked the 5 volts side. You need to also check the 12v side as well. Try hooking up a hard drive and see if it spins up. CD Rom will work as well. I use a voltage meter but have done both.

Next take a picture of your board just to make sure you hooked up all the correct cables to the motherboard.

But could be something else.... hope something easy.

You realy need to load the circuit to verify it is working properly............. and a volt meter does not load the circuit just a heads up
