This, from the insane bureaucracy of the European Union, where everything from the size and shape of a turnip is regulated:

"An update to an energy law, which will apply in the European Union, has the power to limit sale of discrete components deemed 'energy inefficient.' GPU maker AMD is worried this will affect future technology as it becomes available, as well as some current offerings. From TFA: 'According to data NordicHardware has seen from a high level employee at AMD, current graphics cards are unable to meet with these requirements. This includes "GPUs like Cape Verde and Tahiti", that is used in the HD 7700 and HD 7900 series, and can't meet with the new guidelines, the same goes for the older "Caicos" that is used in the HD 6500/6600 and HD 7500/7600 series. Also "Oland" is mentioned, which is a future performance circuit from AMD, that according to rumors will be used in the future HD 8800 series. What worries AMD the most is how this will affect future graphics cards since the changes in Lot 3 will go into effect soon. The changes will of course affect Nvidia as much as it will AMD.' Is this the beginning of the end for high-end GPU sales in the EU?" The report in question. Each performance category of hardware has a power draw ceiling; in this case, regulators are increasing the minimum bus bandwidth for the highest performance category, bumping all hardware on the market into the next lowest. Unfortunately, no current hardware or planned hardware on the high end will come under the power draw ceiling for that category.

nah they will be like companies in the U.S., they 'll just pull out take their money and move their shit elsewhere and then when you want or need something, you can get it at a mere 3 times the cost it was before...... but now its smaller and you get less than before.... BASTARDS!

Oddly, I don't remember seeing a single CFL when I visited Europe a few years ago.

The fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck? Fuck the bastards they can't stop me. I will purposefully set out to fuck up the environment if they mess with my gaming. I will literally kill this planet. I will just shit radioactive turds everywhere and fill the atmosphere with so much methane that all the trees die. Yeah not sure where that came from. Sorry got a bit emotional. Seriously though this is fucking ridiculous. Starting to understand the saying "Rules are made to be broken"

Well EU peeps....so what this means, instead of picking a fight (when gaming) it will be more like leading the sheep to slaughter or even worse....that might suck out loud!

With our energy prices having just gone up 6-9%, how much electricity we use and in what could well be more of an issue for some of us...

If a card is not energy-efficient, it is going to produce more waste heat. The solution is to turn ones house heating down and let AMD keep the family warm!

they will make them more energy efficient is all. If you ask me... run 1200w of Power or more to run a machine is a huge waste of electricity.

Just watch... they will make the chips smaller and they will take up less power. Then again..... i have been know to be wrong. :)
