Card is about a year old and it used to overheat when playing crysis thats why I changed my case to add more cooling and that seemed to work until I started playing MOH now its overheating again.

And I know the ports are clear because every 2 months I strip it down and clean it and the last time I cleaned it was 3 days ago.

look like your power supply is discharging its heat right into your vid card.also make sure the fan is working when you notice it over heating

Damn I never even noticed that The good thing is there are exhaust vents underneath the power supply so turning it over will not be a problem.

I cant believe I never noticed that what a bloody Idiot I am lol.

Well thats the first thing to try thank you . Sometimes you look for problems and forget to check the obvious

after you do that ,do you use msi afterburner to turn up the fan speed of the card ..and the 470 runs hotter then most from what i have seen ..i have the EVGA 560 ti 448 .with my fans on the card at 70%.playing BF3 for 3 hours ..my card gets up to 63 cel...and most nvdia cards dont burn up till 105 cel..

On a another note , I allso would have the cpu fans turned the other way , were they blow out the back to creat a air flow.Don't think that will help your Video Card unless it blowing on to it.

Ok from what I can see, you may be causing some of your own problems , The cpu fans are sucking air from the Video Card and the power supply is doing the same thing, you need to creat a good air flow, through your case, And across the card and cpu., Air in and air out. Like a tunnel.

sorry for all the posts , but the more I looked the more I could see.

you need to open the video card and re-paste with nt-h1 thermal compound an re pad the memory chips with silicon sheet

while apart take off rear bracket an dril some holes or use evga high flow braket 5097293592dc0_470.jpg

I also noticed that the covers you have on the empty slots on the back are vented. That would limit air flow thru the video card. The fasted air goes in through the front and out the back creates the air flow thru your case. Think of it like the wind chill factor up north. Even tho it is 32 degrees out side it feels like it way below 0 if it is windy. Thats the wind chill factor. So by blocking those holes with solid covers would make a faster flow of air thru your video card as air will take the least of the resistance way out. 5 vented covers.

Also the top fan should be blowing in as well. All fans blowing in except the rear ones...Re paisting the GPU as KaptCrunch stated as well is a good idea...Fan speeds all the way up all the time... also a marvelous idea...

I would not attempt drilling holes in my video cards but the do sell after market coolers that fit your card. http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Nvidia-GTX470-465-VGA/dp/B0046U89XK/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

And thats just one example. EVGA precision a great program to control fan speeds...

http://www.majorgeeks.com/EVGA_Precision_d6209.html

Good luck..

larsin is correct the power supply is sucking air down and your gpu is doing the same in the opposite direction and sucking air up.leaving a vaccum and a fight for fresh air and your biggerfan on the powersupply wins..now your in a pickle...i would flip power supply upside down to draw air from under .cut access hole in bottom and install a safety screen and maybe elevate rig up higher -3/4 of an inch longer pegs to increase airflow under the case ....and put another fan infront and low in case.....

Guy's you are amazing thank you for all your help I will take your advice and create better airflow through the comp.

I did not even think that I could be causing the problems my self, but like most novices I thought having the fan at the top exhausting the air out the case would draw air away from my gpu and the fans on my cpu are also drawing air away as well so no wonder my GPU is overheating.

Lesson learned lol

I have to go against the top fan as intake. Heat naturally rises, and keeping it as an exhaust fan make more sense. But I do agree with turning the CPU fan so it pulls from front, and pushes out the back. And also using MSI Afterburner. My GTX560ti runs moderately warm, but I had noticed that the drivers were not turning the fan speeds up as temp increased. I have mine set to start raising fast, I can play all day long and temps stay under 135F, usually around 120F, but when in ICE bubble in freeze tag, the glow makes it heat up a little more. Just having afterburner control the fans, lowered my temps nearly 50F ingame. My temps had gone up after I had installed a second monitor. With just a single monitor there were no issues. And I have a very similar coolermaster case.

i'd leave fans as are and plug all the rear slots with duct tape

note the psu blows out the back not into case and change the video card bracket to high flow

and make a divider out of constuction paper (yellow line) and leave an air gap so video card can breathe 5097b36ee4c94_baldie.jpg

note CPU heatsink cover the ends so that air flows straight up to top exhaust fan

i granntee that is set-up you can have the side cover on and enjoy gaming again

You can increase graphics fan speed with rivatuner software its free you will probaly find the fan runs at stock 25% and can increase it up t0 100% although 50% would probably be fine.

hi guys well its good news and bad I flipped over the power supply reversed the top fan to bring air into the case, Fitted a manual switch so I can really crank up the intake fan at the front.

Now the bad I stripped down the graphics card to re-paste the heatsink so no problem untill I DESTROYED the cover by stepping on it so now I have had to improvise and to get round this I fitted another small exhaust fan on the back of the case which in theory should draw the Air across the graphics card and keep it cool...

5097c9db39ab5_newphonepics05112012049.jpg5097ca97d81a7_newphonepics05112012056.jpg

5097cad428abc_newphonepics05112012054.jpg I also rewired all cables after these pics to give the best airflow through the case..

so I NOW HAVE A FRONT INTAKE FAN WITH ADJUSTABLE SPEED CONTROL A SIDE INTAKE FAN STRAIGHT ON TO GPU THE TOP FAN INTAKES NOW AND 2 REAR EXHAUST FANS

TEMP NOW SITTING AT 20 DEG C / 68 DEG F ON IDLE

Ok Baldie I wish would hit me up on xfire and we can voice chat or TS

1) the top fan should always exhaust out.(heat rises)

2) The power supply is fine as long as it's getting air flow (fan down)

3) I would put 100 mm fan on the heat sink of the gpu blowing on it ( since the cover is broken) ,(use zip ties) (fan controlled if possible)

try these and check you temps ..
