its too bad so many of those 18000 workers were not union workers, and they lost their jobs, too.

as far as I can tell, the bakers union didn't even bother to talk to the management, even though the management offered up a new contract, which the Teamsters accepted. Hell, the Teamsters are mad at the bakers union, too lol.

years ago unions were needed just like most politicians were as a way to protect and serve we the people...but now the corruption and backroom deals have made many of them useless monopolies of power and money just sucking the life out of us..

Go ahead keep bashing unions and when they're all gone we'll see what kind of pay you will get.You guys are every man for himself. Why don't one of you bright minds out there buy up the company and hire some 12 year old kids, pay them cheap wages $3 - $4 per hour is that cheap enough.Maybe with that kind of dough after a year they can buy themselves a brand new bicycle.Oh you don't have to give them benifits either they might be able to buy some medical insurance and car insurance and house insurance.Give me a break union bashers.I'm sure glad I am in one.And so is my wife and neighbours.Let me know when you non union guys get to retire also.

Johnny, do you own a calender? This is 2012, soon to be 2013. Not 1960. We have so many f*cking laws governing what you MUST pay, and what benefits you MUST provide that it's not worth discussing. Try and start a business now, in this country. You'll tear your hair out trying to comply with all the regulations. Add to that some union rep making his/her own personal demands. You, me, and any other sane capitalist would throw in the towel and say piss on it. That is what is happening here in the US. Hostess is just another American Icon falling by the wayside, drowned by compliance.

Capitalism is about profit, and when unions, trade sanctions, federal and state regulations make it impossible to make money, the reason to be in business evaporates.

I doubt that a lot of participants in this dialogue realize how much unions have benefited the American worker, even those that now are anti-union. The unions dragged everyone's standard of living up, union or not.

Our standard of living, across the board, would not be where it is today if not for unions. Because of unions the standard of living has improved for every single American worker, union or not. Not being Canadian as is Johnny Dos I cannot fairly offer an opinion on the impact of unions in Canada.

However I am not a union radical, I believe in fair negotiations for a fair wage and benefits. Neither side should be greedy. It starts with recognizing the company must make money or there will be no jobs, the plant will close. If it can be determined that the company is profitable the negotiations should be for fair wages and benefits equating to a fair share of the profits.

Unionism started on a battleground between workers and management. And make no mistake, were it not for unions every workers status, union or non-union, would be much less than it is today.

Now the playing field is much more level and in many cases the union and management recognize that they need to cooperate with each other in order to survive.

Common sense with both union and management needs to apply, not a hostile attitude by either party.

This is starting to get political, but when Upton Sinclair started his crusade for American Workers it was necassary for Unions to protect workers....To

day the Union bosses are thugs who dont even consider the feelings of its members....a vast majority of the strilking union workers didnt even WANT to strike, but the union bosses went ahead and forced a long established business to close....

I belive in working hard and retiring with enough to enjoy the wonder years but some of these unionized positions have 3 retired people for every one worker...so basiclly we are paying for 4 people to do one job....how can any company survice that? Unless of course you are the US Government and just take the money from other places to pay all the retired employees....

Really...should I be able to retire at 45 with a lifetime pension and health insurance? while I get a part time job that pays me cash or whatever??

The Problem With Business Owners & Unions IMHO Is That There Is No Bargaining In "Good Faith" Anymore.

Everyone Has Become "Out For Themselves" & Do Not Care About Their Fellow Man.

The Relationship Between Employer & Employee Is Fundementaly Broken.

I went to Walmart and couldn't find any Twinkies <sniff> <sniff> But they had a few Honey Buns left and donuts plus a few other things. I got two Honey Buns. Will add peanut butter on top for the best treat in the world besides Twinkies. I am so sad. I have not had a Twinkies is 6 months to a year. Not much of a sweet person anymore but man... love them Twinkies. Anyone have any ideas where I can get some? I will pay top dollar.

I believe if I were paying for the health care plan I had, prior to qualifying for Medicare, for my wife and myself it would have been around $1,000.00 per month.

I was fortunate to have excellent coverage with token co-pays for doctors visits, prescription plan, eye, ears and dental care.

This continued in my retirement until I qualified for Medicare and then it became a secondary insurance.

I was on the retirement benefit plan for over 13 years before going on to Medicare.

I was most fortunate.

Thank you UAW.

Go to a local mom & pop convinience store. Im sure there will be a few there. My favorite snake was the "Funny Bones". Which was like a peanut butter & chocolate twinkie....

Even The "Swiss Rolls" were killer!

Especially when made with Coconut Oil (which was forced out years ago)....

FYI, I buy Coconut Oil over the counter now at Shoprite & add it to everything!!!!

Take That FDA!!!!

Saturated fat = Neuron Food For The Brain! (Plus Vit.B12 & Omega Oils)

Maybe if whoever buys the name and does Twinkies again should have packs of them with a small amount of mj in it? That might perk up sales. Of course it wouldnt be legal without a prescription that says you must take three twinkies a day for whatever ailes you.
