Ok so some of you are aware my machine went belly up. Its an old computer so I have decided to go for a new system.

My present system is a quad core 8 gb ddr2 ram. Vid card won't play bf3 so its time to change it out.

So here is my wish list...

I want dual monitors to display in game on main monitor... and desktop or other app on my other monitor. Am thinking of using my 50" panasonic plasma tv for my main monitor for streaming movies and playing games.

The other monitor would be used for my admin duties while in game, or anyother app I want to have running while I am playing or watching movies. My plasma has a referesh rate of 300 and not 120 which should make gameplay smoother.

I want dual vid cards... can I use the one I have and team it with a higher end one i will buy? Or do they have to be the same type of card. My present one is the gigabyte ATI Raedeon hd 4670. I am thinking of getting the raedeon 7770... can I use the crossfire x technology I have on the current card to double it up with a higher end card?

Or is there a better way to double up on the graphics card? Please asume I know nothing when u reply... after all im just an idiot:p

The MB must be able to support chaining my Vid cards.

So please lets have all your thoughts on a new system. Cooling system is a must.

The 50" plasma has its own pros and cons.  Obviously the ginormous screen is great to game on, unless you're too close to it and you have to turn your head to view the whole screen.  I've found that it's rotten for surfing the net and reading forums - I have to crank up the font size way to often.  I tend to use my second monitor ( 24" widescreen ) for typical computer use.

Yea that is what the other monitor is for. I might just get a 32 " monotor/tv for gaming and keep the plasma for tv and vids. I am trying to build something that will stand the tesy of time.

On-board audio has improved dramatically over the past few years, so you can save some $$ and use what comes with the motherboard. 8Gb RAM is more than enough for gaming, but memory is cheap, so 16Gb can be had for under $100. A single video card will do you fine, so get the best that's within your budget. I went overboard and bought 2 EVGA nVidia 680's, but the price was right and my frame rates and graphics effects are awesome. I still suck at gaming, however.  :hrhr:

I've had great luck with ASUS motherboards. I have a P8Z77-V Deluxe in my main rig for its power handling capabilities. It has 16-phase power for the CPU. As an over-clocker, this is important to me as it provides enhanced stability in regards to voltage to the CPU. Definitely get a SSD for a boot drive and for loading your games. Speed is king and the 15 second or so boot times is worth it. an 800-1200w power supply is a must, particularly if you plan on rocking 2 video cards and adding drives, water cooling etc. I found a great deal on a Cooler Master 1200w PSU so I went with that. Make sure that whatever display you get has a good refresh rate so that you get no motion blur. My main 27" screen states 1ms. That may be a marketing exaggeration (or not), but it's a joy to use when gaming. Also, get a case with plenty of fans or room for fans and space for air flow and cable management.

Good luck! Keep the questions coming!

Chaos, educate yourself on the power supply.  There a plenty of decent guides to figuring out how much power you will need.  I was going to purchase a new PSU until I read up on it.  Turned out my 600W was more than enough for the hardware I had.  This article will help explain why the average gamer shouldn't buy a 1200W PSU:  http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-psu-review,2916-2.html

Yup. A 750-800w supply would have been plenty for my needs, but when I got a great deal on the 1200w, I took it. My tower now has 6 drives, 2 hot-swap bays, 2 video cards etc. 800w would still be enough, but I like having some overhead, particularly as I add more crap top the rig.  :-)  Best advice is to get a brand with a good reputation (Corsair, Thermaltake, Seasonic etc,). Do your research before you buy.

The 7770 isn't a great gaming videocard. Get at least a 7850 or higher.

What is your budget?

2 7770 cards can run bf3 on ultra they are decent gaming cards. 2 of them costs maybe 250... but for 50 bucks more you could get a 7950 which would do the same.

Im running a SC gtx680 from evga....that card can run 4 monitors at once though ive just got 2 at the moment. Its a beast of a card, running bf3 at around 140 fps at high settings plus running duel cards the vram does'nt stack so you'd be better off with a big single card...also if your using mainly for gaming i would go Intel for the chip, maybe I5 3570k or I7 3770k.Amd seems to be a bit lacking these days unless you can pick up a cheap 6 core 1100t or a 1090t..

Sorry I missed all this chaos, I got home around 9:00PM tonight, called you but couldn't  find you.  i have built kick ass systems in the past, but I've learned that for what I do, word processing, gaming (COD2,COD4 and COD5)  a quad-core AMD processor, a good video card (nvidia GTX 650 with at least 2GB of memory), and 16GB of memory are more than enough.  I have recently bought  a SSD hard drive and upgraded my psu to a 750watt. The hd upgrade makes a huge difference, the computer runs pretty smoothly and I don't have any heat or noise issues. I'm upgrading anyways in a few months and will  build an Intel I7 system. Not that it will make me a "better gamer", but at least I will be able to brag about it.  :hrhr:

I have been running the ASRock 970 extreme4 for quite a long time, damn good board and I been using cooler master cases on all my builds for the last 5 years, good price and good cases with great cooling
