ok this happen to me 2 yrs ago...lightning struck our cable line...weird part it didnt fry the modem...but it fried my router and scrambled my audio settings and also it didnt effect queen pc..had to buy new router and uninstall then reinstall audio drivers....everything went back to normal...

now ...i would try to uninstall and reinstall the ethernet card driver..if that dont work and/or u dont have driver ...chances are it fried the ur internet card....so u could always install a pci ethernet card ...should fix ur problem if u get ethernet card....

no physical hard wired ethernet card is seperate from wireless...wireless can work when hardwired doesnt...if both out then it probably router or modem....but chances are hardwired ethernet card is probably fried...hope this helps...just fyi..im a A+certified pc tech any problems of if this doesnt work feel free to hit me up on xfire or send me pm...

p.s. i know others saying router/modem ....i would try my first suggestion first...as u may not need to replace router or modem....ethernet card would be cheaper fix if it works...but remember...if wireless is workn and u have wireless routher and its connecting to ur own internet service...then its just the ethernet/internet card that is fried

I sux at paintings (see picture) but a question within the subject of lightnings, doesn't people in the US or where lightnings occur very often have lightning protected houses in a form of a copper wire next to the tv antenna, that goes straight into the ground without hitting house electronics?

LOL.. most don't have antenna anymore iEvil.. and most do not have lightning rods either. Regardless, a lightning rod would not prevent voltage spikes on the phone lines or cable lines. There are specialized surge protectors that can be used for phone and cable.

You should really be using a power surge too to prevent your system from getting fried. It'll save you the headache and money in the long run.

this true...but what some dont realize is that power surge protectors wont always save you from lightning strike...as with what happend to me was lightning struck my cable line...but again weird part was it didnt fry the modem...it skippd my modem and fried my router..that was the weird part lol..as it would have gone thru modem first but modem was spared....how that happens who in the fuck knows..but it did to me lol...

best course of action is during a bad lightning severe thunder storm is to unplug pc from wall...and disconnect all internet cables and unplug all routers and modems..this is the best protection ever! this is what i do in case of severe lightning...i cant afford to replace anything...this is what i do since my lightning strike experience...

The main reason the modem survives is its power supply and the way it handles excess voltage so nine times out of ten it will work after a severe power surge....

I have seen cable tv boxies survive yet tv and sound systems fry and I am told its all down to the internal set up of these and modems...They let excess voltage through and out into your comp or tv ect ect

@@CobraBites Before I got fiber optic, I had the old cable and my power surge had cable plugs as well as the ac. That saved all of my components too. Cuz lightning hit a few times and it survived.

Somthing like this one should work, right???
