I had mine made a few years ago now and quickly found out that upgrading proof is just words that mean nothing except the company won't pay to upgrade for you! I have upgraded a few times since then but I just do it when I really need it. I started out with the idea to build so when I need newer more powerful and more performance I needed to allow for that in my original build! Blu remember pcs are outdated as soon as you turn it on! I have a couple more things I want but an gonna wait a few more months as there is a vc I want but at the moment it's too much for me! It's all about the money either way for me! Good luck and listen to these guys as they helped me a whole lot when I was planning mine!

well do you guys have any suggestions as for what i should get? i do want to be able to upgrade and be able to play COD's and newer games with no problem at all.

Find someone who knows how to build a PC and go from there.

Alienware used to be high-end gaming gear, but it was very high priced and probably pretty formulaic in selection of components rather than optimizing for best performance. Nevertheless, they made a name on being THE manufacturer of high-end gaming systems. Then Dell came along. Can't say that they are worth a damn any more if the Dell philosophy of computer building has crept in.

But whatever. Best performance and bang for the buck these days is found by building your own. As for that particular video card? No. Outdated.

^I purchased an upgraded X51 from Alienware a couple months ago and absolutely love it. But then again, I also got a whole bunch of discounts as well...lol. Only downside is that since the X51 is in such a compact case, expansion is almost non-existent..but I'm completely happy with it regardless. Does everything I need it to do and still has enough power inside of it to last me a few years.

What I ended up getting...

Alienware X51
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English
16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600Mhz
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 670 with 2.0GB GDDR5
2TB SATA 6Gb/s (7,200RPM) 64MB Cache
Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD±RW, CD-RW)
4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4770 processor (8M Cache, up to 3.9 GHz)
Alienware 330 Watt Power Supply

330W power supply!???! What a joke! Replace that with at least an 800W. That kind of shit blows my mind. They engineer a pretty nicely spec'ed system and then under-power the damn thing. I predict no end of weird crashes in graphic intensive games if you remain at 300W

Yes i seen that and said WTF 330 power sp..never go with any thing under 750..i run a XFX 850 pro..if you build it you know what you have ..look for the right stuff.and we will help you ..i will make you a list and see what you think..but for 1600.00 you can have 1 hell of a rig..better then what you can buy from dell or any other place that rip you off..

just took a look and here are a few thing's you can do for under a 1000.00..but dont know what cpu you want to go with ..but here you go

          cool master haf 922.. = 89.99

  ocz mod x stream pro 700 w power = 89.99

Asus p8 z77 mother board open box = 89.99

evga 760 4 g/b v card = 299.00

g.skill ripjaws 1600 8 gigs =84.99

SSD 250 gigs samsung 840 evo =169.45

that is 823.41 .... that will leave you money for CPU after market cooler and what ever you like to do with the rest of the money so if you plan on spending say 1200.00 you would still have about 400.00 to play around with ..and this is just a fast look for things ..hope it helps ..

I agree build your own. So long as the usual precautions are taken and you are patient it will be well worth it. You must factor in the cost for the OS as well but its better than the ones tied into the premade systems. Fewer issues if it needs to be repaired, reinstalled or parts are changed. No garbage preinstalled to deal with. Make a list of a variety of parts that will do the job. If you get the parts over time the rebates and discounts can really add up. Dont worry about the latest and greatest for processors and video cards. The extra premium to get them isnt worth it. Sometimes a previous generation MB can be upgraded in the bios to use next-gen processors.

I imagine this is all SOP but make a partition on the second internal drive apart from just data storage that can be used as a secondary place to install programs that dont have to be on the C drive. Also programs that dont have to be installed at all and the speed of an SSD isnt required. Get all the needed first-install programs like anti-virus or downloaded graphic card drivers from the current system and put them on a DVD. After that image your C system partition. WD drives have a free application for this that will also work with other brands so long as the WB one is installed. Others might also.

No, not SOP at all here. Personally, I see no reason to partition a drive. Exception to that would be a >2TB drive with intention to use it as a boot device. In that case, it has to be partitioned due to boot partition size limitations in Win7. Not sure if Win8 removed that restriction. But anyway, you can still store programs on a drive other than the typical location on C:. I find creating partitions to organize data/programs is a lousy idea simply because it creates wasted space that might have otherwise been utilized more easily. Or if you estimate low, you end up running out of space. Either way, you eventually run off to find some program, to do a non-destructive partition size adjustment. IMHO: Organize using folders, not partitions.

If you go someplace, they are going to pull hardware off the shelf if they have old stock they need to turn over, that means you are paying a premium price for hardware that could be getting long in the tooth. If I pick my hardware myself, that isn't happening. One good reason to build one, or select the parts for the build.

I also see a lot of builders skimp on the power supply ( big fucking dumb mistake) you can go with the best hardware out there and with a shitty power supply you will have a shitty PC. A crappy power supply causes more problems than any other piece of hardware in a PC

If you aren't building your own, I wouldn't go with Alienware. There is No way of expanding and upgrading, and you can get a superior PC that can be expanded upon for a similar price. I'm going to be building my own, but there are better websited that will allow you to fully customize it. I would check out These:

http://ironsidecomputers.com

http://cyberpowerpc.com

I don't know if CyberPowerPC is going to be good. I have heard some pretty bad things about their support, but Ironside has great reviews and a lot of people like it.
