Ok so i have this OCZ pci-e SSD, love it, zero problems with it except its became too small for my needs, its a 128G.

served me well for like 5 years or so, but its time to get something bigger.

so i checked a bit and saw these 500GB SSD

Samsung 840 EVO Series 500GB

Crucial M550 512GB
Crucial MX100 512GB
Corsair Force LX 512 Go

they pretty much all between 190 and 230 €

so price here dont matter

what matter is quality/reliability/speed

back in the days i know crucial was really recommended, but now i dont really know

it seems the Samsung is prolly the one with the best perf, but what about quality ?

remember i use this for my work, it has to be as reliable as possible and as fast as possible

or maybe someone have other SSD to recommend ?

I'm never buying another Crucial SSD after the BS I went through to try to get an RMA done on a 2 week old C300 128gb SSD.Worked really good till it had a Hick-up and whipped out it's own Firmware out.Crucial refused to replace it stating that it was User error that corrupted the firmware.

All I did with the damn thing was install windows and a couple games on it.Never messed with the Firmware.

Bad thing is that once your Firmware becomes corrupt the drive is completely useless. It will no longer be detected by the SATA controller.I've tried it on several external controllers with the same results.

I've has issues with Crucial not honoring they're Warranty before on memory and a ( fairly expensive at the time ) 16gb Flash drive. Not doing it Ever again.

My Brother bought 2 of the Samsung 840 500 gig drives and is running them in Raid 0.He says the Read speed is Ridiculously fast in raid but the write speed is actually a tad bit slower that just running 1 drive. He said he's very very happy with them so far.

I plan on getting 1 500gig SSD drive and another 8 gig of memory on Black Friday which is just 2 months away.Maybe some other goodies as well.

sounds like i will go for that Samsung then.

now im wondering if i really need 500G or 250 would be enough

one more thing to avoid the hassle of reinstalling everything, a clone copy with acronis is what i need, right ?

anyone did that already ?

i never did that and im a bit scared to screw it

Lol, I had the exact same debate... 500 or 250?  The 500 was only a $100 more so that's what i went with.

I think since you are going to ssd, you must re-install.. I 'm not sure but I don't think a straight copy will work right.

well im already on SSD, its not like cloning a HDD to SSD.

i just need a real clone of all the OS, apps, drivers and all my files are elsewhere already.

hmm maybe not all files will have to really check those before doing anything

i have so many things installed im really scared to reinstall everything (it gona take ages to find everything again) and im also scared to clone lol

i guess i can try and if it doesnt work reinstall

here i can get the 500 for 230€ and the 250 for 110€

i tend to think 250G will be more than enough, hell 125 was enough for me for 5 years

i think i can live with 250 a few years then upgrade to quantum computer when it will be released lol

Nothing beats a clean install.

It may be a pain in the ass but you will have a nice clean OS by the end.    I firmly believe windows needs that at least once a year to keep working smoothly.

With Windows 8.1 he won't. It was a Windows XP thing. The new OS is smart enough to emulate IDE and not try to work it as one. I have an OCZ 128G for my Windows OS only and I had an issue where I had to put the BIOS in IDE mode to resolve a booting issue.

@@ChknFngr or as I like to call him, ChickenFucker Samsung (from reviews) and OCZ (experience) have excellent Support & RMA policy. For longer term I would go with a Samsung. Must be extremely expensive because http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-Storage-Solutions-RevoDrive-warranty/dp/B005F30JBM check these guys... Just look at the ridiculous performance man, I am drooling.

There is so much bandwidth available in current specifications that manufacturers feel no need to take advantage off due to the sheer lack of usage.
