It actually landed on a pad at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.... And listen I'm a Science guy, but the space race was part of the Cold War. It was a way to get the people to support better rockets used for ICBM's... You will probably have a different outlook on this when the USA Finally Declares Bankruptcy... It's Congress who fleeced us during the Cold War for Projects, Weapons and other lies to fill their pockets and the Pockets who pull their strings. I personally know someone who owns a company that supplies the Air Force making Aviation parts and is a Multi Millionaire through over charging th American public through defense spending. If NASA was able to do what they do and fund itself by being part of the "Open Market" then fine.
