I've signed up.  Which Scrabble dictionaries are in use?

The brief for this was to emulate the same process as playing in person so there is no validation on words. The Scrabble club usually play the games on Zoom so there is more discussion etc.

We need a method to somehow prevent cheating, i.e. by using the internet, ideally a short time limit would be best, but not for extended games, any ideas??

OK, I've always played UK players using a UK dictionary as reference, but with this there needs to be a bit of leeway with things such as humour/humor etc. However there needs to be some ground rules such as a defined dictionary, otherwise you just type words into google until some obscure match is found, which may be acceptable in street talk in one country but not the other.

I must say Duc this lends itself well to what your Mum wants, a real time game in conjunction with zoom among family and friends. Less so for extended distance games where scrabble 'assistants' (i.e. hacks' and google can be used at leisure. Not often I'm impressed but this is great, easy to use and fun, well done, if the word definitions were defined it would be perfect.

ps I haven't used Google or anything else, to those I'm playing

Second friggin attempt...

The game lacks an adjudicator so, when there is a challenge, it does not rule if the challenge stands.  There is no penalty for making an unsuccessful challenge unlike the game IRL.

I possess Collins Ultimate Scrabble Dictionary & Word List from which the UK competition dictionary is derived.  US players use a different dictionary in competitions.

@RobMc I have dismissed your triple challenge:
BO = the same as BOO

BON = adjective meaning good

OP = noun meaning operation

all of which are listed as permissible in the above publication.

The game should email players when turns are made or passed, letters are exchanged or challenges made.  The following is an example from a Pixie Pit Scrabble game...

Hi Gardencoaster, it's me Newsflasher !

I have taken my turn in The Word Smiths Game Room,
and I have made a total of
    14 points,
for playing
    VINO (14)
The Letter Bag Pixies are kindly reminding you that your password is: [password]

Your letter tray is now showing: E T E A I E A
and there are 2 tiles remaining in your letter bag.

Players in this game, and their current scores are:-
P1 - Gardencoaster | [email address]| Word Finder = Off | Score = 260
P2 - Newsflasher | [email address] | Word Finder = Off | Score = 375
Gardencoaster, you are currently trailing by 115 points.

Please play by Fri Jun 26 12:33:33 2020 GMT, else your game will expire.

Bollocks

Bo is NOT the same as Boo

Bon is French A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

OP is an abbreviation of operation

So under your rules any old shit can be a word FU, this is exactly why you need a time limit, you went away for a day and looked up everything that normally you would never get, makes the game a farce

Don't shoot the messenger.  Perhaps you should write a letter to COLLINS who publish the dictionary or, better still, improve your knowledge of the English Language...  You could learn to write the odd bon mot instead of insults, who knows you may have an op for further education?  I don't make the rules but, when I am allowed, I follow them... I shall assume you don't wish to continue and bring our game to a close.

It is your turn @RobMc I will stick to the 3 letter words....I spelled "cut" only because I had no cu"N"t and yes I excepted your challenge of my words

Enow

https://scrabble123.com/scrabble-twl-dictionary/enow

Wone

https://www.wordgamedictionary.com/dictionary/word/wone/

However it is from middle English meaning habit or custom and is a southern variant of "wane" from Old Norse

Give yourself a big old hug from loADER :2guns:

OK the pair of you fair enough, but you see the point I'm making? I do mine within 10 minutes with no aids, but without any time limits or even a defined dictionary it's not good. That said it seems perfect for Duc's mum who does it in real time now I just need an A for rsehole?

OK so I've just 'cheated' googled scrabble words and put in Zax for a 29 score, makes the whole game pointless, no skill required at all. So game great for intended purposes but no good for non monitored games, and I can't see how to fix this???

On the plus side when Rosie accepts my challenge for a game of strip scrabble she'll need the fire on.

Thanks for the feedback so far - has been pretty useful.

To be fair - the fact that you are discussing the validity of words does imply that the actual 'game' is working? and you are managing to place tiles etc.

This for sure will not meet the requirements for all and so far meet most the the requirements for which it was created. The game engine has been built in a way that makes implementation of additional 'game rules' and features such as dictionary selection/enforcement fairly straight forward. That is something I may pick up on in the future.

Thanks again for the feedback.
