So, my tv/internet package was like $99/mo. when I moved in.  The promotion expired after 12 months, & it went up to $126....wasn't stoked about that, but whatever.  Got my notice of my upcoming bill & it raised another $25 to like $156!  Was like: hold the fukking train.  Called Customer Retention & asked them what's the best deal I can get for internet if I'm extra-special nice to you & what's the best internet-only deal I can get if I leave for 30 days or whatever & come back as a 'new' customer?  She said the best deal she could find was a basic-channel + internet package, because the basic channel portion gives a better discount for the internet portion.  So, instead of $156, it's $55.00 for the basic channels, with internet changing from 200Mb down to 400Mb down.  W00t.  Means I can d/l them bullets coming at me 2X as fast!

Depending on your ISP there are actually federal grants to help offset your monthly bill.  You may check and see

Timmah there is a federal grant to lower your internet bill by 25 to 50 dollars a month. All you got to do is apply on line.

Comcast Cable net worth is north of $215 Billion dollars, making it one of the largest corporations in the U.S.  Interesting you mention Sky; think they own it... & NBC corporation.  They're worth ~1.6X that of AT&T....you know, the largest telecommunications company in the world; known for fiber optic infrastructure.  Cable isn't going anywhere, they're just adapting.

Unfortunately you have to play that game with retention sometimes. I worked for an isp for 11 years. I do miss it being free lol. Since cod only uses a really small stream of bandwidth you can play smoothly as long as you rate limit the porn downloads. Just streaming it you should be fine. :0

No biggie, just 5 minutes' effort of being genuinely nice to someone whose job it is to listen to whiny people all day.  Easy-peasy, lemon squeezy.  Even asked her what kinda deal she could give me if I was extra-special nice to her; to which she giggled.  Done & Done.  As dickish as society has become, just being a decent person to your fellow human draws a lot of water.

Now check that shit out, up above: my ping to a server in Louisville, KY, which is about 35-40 miles away is 46.

My ping to Atlanta, Ga, which is ~400 miles away is 29; that being Comcast, a cable company's telecommunication infrastructure.

Which proves capacity is paramount; even over distance.  Pun intended.

@Timmah!:pc: Yes, rather expensive the internet in the US!

Here in Paris, my internet/tv/phone (fiber) package costs 39,99 € per month, i.e. about 45,40 $

And here are the speeds:

Still, you are quicker than me in game

we cut all cable and phone a year or so ago, we bought for 80 bucks a 4k Amazon Fire stick, my Sister loaded it up with Live TV, i pay 15 bucks a month and get 300+ channels from all around the world, she also put Kodi on there and i pay 10 bucks a month for the premium no lag or buffering cahced torrent streams so i can watch any movies or series out there non-live

so now for all my TV viewing pleasures I pay 25 bucks a month plus the cost of my internet which I was paying before anyways

I recently upgraded my internet I have Spectrum Cable. I don't have Cable TV service I stream everything, they also offer Cell service piggybacking off of Verizon for a fantastic price of $45 unlimited Calls, Text and Data.  I was paying $75 for internet and $75 for shitty ATT cell service.  Now I pay $94 for much much better internet and $45 for much much better Cell service from a very much less shitty company. 400+Mbps down and 20+Mbps upload. I can stream content to discord in full 1080HD 60fps now where before at 8-9Mbps upload  720p wouldn't even sync with the audio.  Downloading games....fugheddaboutit it's done already!

Saving $10 in the process ...winning!

It is where Companies like ATT have a monopoly on the fiber service in your area and they gouge you for it. It really isn't worth the $155 US or more monthly bill for the (s)lowest tier When Cable speeds shit all over it for $60 a month less. It's like paying a premium for Fiber just so you can say you have it.

Yeah, price for the 400 down plan is now $55... I pay ATT $300 up front for 1 yr. cell & data.  8mb a month..

I use 5 or 6...so perfect for me.

Bell was very concerned at the price so they said the can save me 10 dollars a month by switching to bells voip for 74 dollars a month. Yeah, it's a monopoly.  They all tacitly agree to a price floor; just like oil companies & gas stations also do; When I worked at a gas station/convenient mart years ago, one of your jobs if you ran a shift was to survey the local competitors' gas prices & adjust yours accordingly.  Meaning go up with the highest-price one; but not always to follow the lowest price one, because they might not be prime consideration.  Once you got to know the managers of the local competitor stations, you'd just call them up & share the price information; some would be as helpful as to proactively call you in advance of a price change at their store, so you could plan the rest of your shift accordingly.  The logic being, if several companies are going to 'compete' for local market share of whatever's being sold, might as well agree on a common price range, lifting the profits of all involved.  Shady?  Grey area?  Dunno, but it was common practice in the Louisville market years ago.  The guy who owned the dominant stores in the market-for whose company I worked- was on the board of directors of the other major player in the area, namely Ashland Oil.  Now that's SHADY.. but apparently entirely legal.

Yeah, price for the 400 down plan is now $55... I pay ATT $300 up front for 1 yr. cell & data.  8mb a month..

I use 5 or 6...so perfect for me.

lol 8mb wouldn't even cover my email.  The plan here for new customers is $49 good for a year, when I suggested to spectrum I close my acct and open another to get the better price I suddenly got free  service for a couple months.
