Outside chance but I did read this somewhere, I don't think the Steam version has Punkbuster (I know you don't need it) check. If it isn't there try downloading add WAW to punkbuster and tick box in game, I'm sure this cured a similar problem for someone, but this is clutching at straws. The original WAW was built to work with Punkbuster and may not work if it's not present, but I'm no expert

Hi Rob, Yeah, I know all about transferring profiles. In fact, I installed the game from Steam, then before even starting it and before the game had even created the Activision folder in AppData, I copied that entire folder structure over from the old machine. Other than noticing that the hardware had changed (and just say no to the reset it suggests on launch), I expected it to come up fully intact and right where I left off. Instead the game came up in 720 resolution and wanted me to create an online profile. At first, I thought maybe the Steam version did things differently, so I renamed the Activision folder I copied over and restarted the game to let it create its own. It did, so I know it's still the same old game, but absolutely nothing I've tried has worked to allow me to create even a scratch profile name. I even found the place to enter a CD Key, which I still have, and it accepted it as valid, but just refuses to let me create ANY profile.

does the server list show up ? If not that would mean the games not updated. You may also try running steam go to library your game right click select properties . There you have 2 choices one is updates the other is check interigty of the game. As ussual you can delete it and reload it. Good luck . Nice to see you back.

First time poster to WAW, just installed WAW from Steam, setup a new online profile, took a few tries because it said others were already in use, but it works for me! Of course I'm using a steamdeck and SteamOS but it's the same software as a base.

Did you allow CoDWaWMP.exe through your firewall? Are you using the original cd key from which your profile was created? (Insert key in game menu in single player).Try running the .exe as admin from your Steam /common folder.

Is there no way of getting your old profile off old computer and inserting it in new version? It's on the forum somewhere (a few times) first tell windows to show hidden files then copy it, and keep a copy regularly as it updates. I've got the path to go upstairs but the wifes asleep, if I copy it correctly from our forum C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles

There were a shit ton of reasons for me to leave XI, so I did, but lack of vision should definitely NOT be one of them! Stick with it, try to adjust, and just enjoy other things the clan has to offer for you

I'm not sure how bad your issues are, but maybe there are a few things you could adjust to try and help? Not sure if you have tried playing with the contrast/brightness settings on your monitor? That can make a difference. Not sure how new/old your monitor is either, as the newer ones can be a lot better than models from 5-10 years ago. Also, in cod4 as an example, you can use the command /r_gamma 1 (number between 0.5 and 3) to adjust brightness quickly between maps. Some maps play much better around 1 (generally stock maps), average for me is around 1.6, and some need over 2. This will probably depend on your own monitor settings though.
