My 13-year-old MTD is still running, but by god, I work hard and I deserve a new riding mower. After doing the homework, I've settled on the Craftsman 46'' 24hp V-Twin Briggs & Stratton Turn Tight Hydrostatic as the best buy for the money. What think?

How you know you are getting old. You think you deserve a better mower. LOL Craftmans are good mowers but also look at the john deere My father has one that is awesome and turns on a dime for the five acres he has to mow. Told him it was a dumb idea to live in the country.

My take on the John Deere is that they're overpriced about $200 for comparable features - you're paying more for the brand only. Consumer Reports ranks Craftsman ahead of them. But I may wait a cpl. weeks - maybe the JDs will go on sale.

Chile: Great idea on the racing striples, XI logo. I may just do that. Need to check if my wireless will reach all areas of my yard so I can game while I'm mowing.

My wife (God bless her!) bought me a Husqvarna ZTR 3016 (zero turning radius, 30" cutting swath, 16 HP motor) for Father's Day last year and I couldn't wait for the grass to grow.  I even fertilized just to mow more often!  I stick with the Husky brand, but to each his own.

I'd get the Craftsman Black Op model. Cost you a little more to start off, they lie about the warranty, but you can mow at least 4 lawns for $15.00!  LOL  Yell

We've got a John Deere 420 (bought used 15 years ago) and that has got to be the most reliable tractor ever.  That poor, poor tractor.  From mowing the lawn in 100+ to snowblowing the driveway at -10, it just works.  And when it does break, repairing it is a snap.  John Deere FTMFW!!!

I am not a Craftsman fan except for hand tools.

Keep in mind, Craftsman does not make their mowers, they apply their name to someone else work.

IMHO.......Nothing runs like a Deere.

If your lawn is all flat you'll be ok.If you have any hills then stay away from the Husky's or Craftsman hydrostats, they are sealed units and are very cheap and will fail early on hills.I had one and like Venery said I too gave it away after an early failure of the hydrostat unit.($650 for a replacement). spent a little more and got a Wheel Horse and have never had a problem.

I bought a husq. 5226 last year and I absolutely fucking love it    my only complaint  the stock tires spin on moist grass. need different tires.  I already mowed the yard this year' lol   had a few wild onion sprouts up and I wanted to use my mower

the husks vary depending on grade  DO NOT GO with a home grade or consumer grade,  you want landscaper grade. if not they will fall apart

I like the 48" scagg mower myself,25HP Kohler 0 turn, hand controls instead of a stearring wheel, hauls ass and does a great job! Of course it MIGHT be a little pricey for you, if your just a novice! I cut 5 acres in 40 minutes with mine! YEAH BABY! And BTW thats with no blades still standing when I'm done. This bitch will turn on a dime and as long as you slow down in the turns you won't damage the grass. I also have a 28" Snapper,12HP Briggs, thats never let me down in 5 or 6 years now, And a 19"Snapper self propelled with a Kawasaki 5HP for 15 years no problems EVER, I didn't even use it for 4 or 5 years and it started up first pull hahaha!

Sorry the little woman corrected me its 47 minutes!
