@@Mule .First you need to tell us your budget, then we can build you the best system that your budget can buy. Building is always the cheaper route if you know what your doing. Not all components are compatible together so choosing the right hardware is not just in the specs. There is alot of knowlege here in the clan so we should be able to suggest something suited to a ASS lol Hee Hawww!

Please forgive me for my long post as I do not know your level of expertise with computers.  I mean no offence in any way shape or form.

build dont buy.  you can really maximize on you money doing it yourself.  Now for the big question.....AMD or INTEL!!!!!!?????

I went with AMD because of the price to performance ratio that can't be beat.  I do respect the fact that Intel chips usually perform better than AMD in most applications.  That being said if money is not really a problem then go Intel with a Nvidia gpu.  If money is tight AMD will give you more bang for your buck in my opinion.  Don't go overboard on you motherboard.  Ha ha made a funny.  You can easily spend a good portion of your budget on a top of the line motherboard and hardly use all of its benefits.  Depending on what you are going to use this new pc for will help decide your mobo needs.  Will you ever run sli or crossfire? Or will one videocard be plenty for your needs.  Get a case that has plenty of fan mounts.  Cooling is a major factor in longevity of components.  Keep them cool keep them longer.  I would suggest you not use the heat sink that comes with the cpu but for 35 bucks you can upgrade to a coolermaster 212 evo. This will cool your cpu better than the stock fan and heatsink.

 link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099&cm_re=coolmaster_212-_-35-103-099-_-Product

In my opinion get the best video card you can afford that covers your needs. If you find a good deal on a card that is over what you will need just think about getting it because it could last your needs for many years.  If you like maxing out all of the latest games then the best card you can afford is what you need.  Again nvidia and amd are close to each other on price and performance.  http://www.videocardbenchmark.net you can check price and performance on video cards as well as cpus here.  As far as power supplies go I suggest using a power supply calculator to help with the needed wattage. http://www.coolermaster.outervision.com this site will help you with that.  Whatever you figure you power needs to be just make sure it is a name brand. Pick a power supply with a 80 plus bronze rating or higher.  These have been designed and tested to provide the most stable and clean power to your components.Be sure to check the power needs of your video card and what power connections it needs. Some take 1 some take 2 plugs. And some need 6 or 4 pin plugs.   http://www.newegg.com/Power-Supplies/Category/ID-32

Memory???  how much is too much?  with windows 7 or 8.1 whichever you choose I would not get less than 8gb.  I run 16 in my pc because when I got my parts I found a great sale at newegg.  Double check with the motherboard manufacturer site for the board you choose for the list of memory that your board can support and the speeds that are supported as well.  Now I have no experience with the SSD drives.  I plan on getting one soon though.  But from what I hear and read is a SSD drive for the os is a must now days.  Regular magnetic hard drives are getting cheaper each day so depending on you storage needs you can go wild with massive storage.  Also you will need a cd/dvd drive/burner. Those are really cheap now.  Get good quality thermal paste for your heat sink.  Just to keep the dust bunnies to a minimum in my pc I got a cheap house air filter and cut pieces out of it to put in front of my fans.  Those are cheap and help keep things nice and clean.  Well I hope I haven't bored you with my long winded post.  Best of luck with the new build.

I dont have one yet but consider a bluray combo drive. I dont know if they are really worth it but they are not all that much more than cd/dvd. Maybe someone that has one can say whether or not they are a benefit. Not quite sure how much the discs are.

Build.

I just recently built my own and I am very pleased with it.

It takes doing some research on what components work best together and foremost what it is you want whether it be a Bad- ass gaming setup or for your work on Quantum Physics

Take your time and look at as many suppliers as you can for deals but don't settle for parts that don't fit into your plan.

One of the things I liked was not getting a bunch of unwanted applications and other bundled junk that has an expiration date  which comes with a lot of store bought PC's

In the end you will be happy you designed and built it yourself.

Keep us posted on what you decide and good luck

always build it yourself mate! it turns out to be much cheaper for the options you decide to add in, with the added benefit of having no pre-loaded crapware from HP/ASUS/Alienware etc..

personally I always start with a nice case. from there you can decide the amount of hardware you want to stock in it. if it's a lot, full tower. if it's JUST RIGHT, mid tower. my current rig I started with the Phantom 410 for the 120mm fan options then built from there. keep it clean, manage your wiring, and hurry up so I can see pics of the finished pc!

$2000 is a fantastic budget. Not too much, not too little. I'll recommend a nice build for the price based around AMD since it was the same type of chip you had before. I'll throw in some parts that I use currently and have great results with, or just have a fond opinion of!

Processor:          AMD Black Edition - AMD FX- 9370 4.4ghz 8-core processor
Graphics:            Nvidia GTX 760
RAM:                  16GB G.Skill Ripjaws Memory Module

Motherboard:      ASUS Sabertooth 990fx - AMD 990fx
Power Supply:    750 Watt Corsair RM750 PLUS Gold full modular
HDD:                  500gb WD Velociraptor HDD 10000 RPM     (choose whatever size you'd like or SSD if you want to spend extra)

Hydro Cooler:     Corsair Hydro Series H90 High Performance 140mm
Network Card:    Intel Pro 10/100/100
Case:                  Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

From a lot of (current) prices I found this should cost you about $1800, $1900 with taxes possibly. I suggest hydro cooling if your budget does in fact allow for it. But remember, keeping the cables clean and tucked away helps with cooling QUITE A LOT. I also included the price of Windows 7 Pro into it. Dunno if you already have a copy or not, but eh. You don't need to get exactly all that if you don't think you'll need it, but I am confident in those parts. Hope this helps in some decision making :)

Yup get a case with a big fan on the side. Also one with cable management on the back of the mb.  This mine and I like it. I didnt notice at the time but the side with the fan is indented in the middle a little bit as tho it got hit with something. Because of where it is I thought it was just part of the design and it doesnt look unsightly so it wasnt worth the hassle of returning. But if I ever want to a replacement panel is 20 bucks and I am sure they have a warranty.

I have to say that that case is pretty. And you can add an Corsair H100i W Cooling on the top.

Tip against dust: Use some nylon panties (seriously!!) and tape it. Easy to remove and to replace a piece again.

Alright, I can make a list Mule if you want this week. And do you prefer AMD or NVidia ?

Can you make a picture of you case inside and out. I need to know that for the cooling of the CPU and maybe even the GPU placement.

Dude check out this Combo Deal on Newegg. $1851.40

It's a pretty darn good Combo deal.Prices on Everything are really high ATM.You could wait till Black Friday and build this exact same system for around $1200.

I would NOT get the 220 Watt FX-9590.It runs Extremly HOT.It is the same thing as the 125 watt FX-8350 with just higher core clock and + $110 price tag.

Don't get the Black Corsair 500R like I did.Every little spec of dust shows up on it.And it will look Horrible within a couple months.I've had mine for almost a year now and I still LOVE it other than the Black color.I may rip it apart and Paint it Red? or Orange? or something Bright.Oh and I changed out all of the WHITE LEDs in All of the fans and Power LED and HDD LED.Those damn white LEDs are BRIGHTER than the SUN.lol

Make sure that IF you get the H100i that you dont get the Older H100 by mistake. It works good but Ive had to RMA mine twice before I got 1 that worked correctly. They shipped a batch out with a BAD 2nd fan controller. So 1 set of fans would run at 100% and the other 2 would not run at all.Not cool when your running 4 fans off of it and only 1/2 of them work.

Sucks you cant build a "High End" Intel i7 PC for under $2500-$2700.Without cheaping out on the video card.Thats Alot of Scratch for something that may need replaced or upgraded 5 years.

Janey could really use a decent PC for COD4.
