There are a lot of maps that generally arent popular. Not because they are bad maps but because they take too long to finish and often go all 9 rounds. So they arent in any of the rotations. But what if that particular map was best out of 5 instead of 9? Or even best out of 3? One example that comes to mind is citi_farm. Its big and open. However the rounds likely go into overtime. A diversion from the same ol same ol but only 1/2 as long.

 

Worth a try? Other maps not in the rotations that might be worth checking out?

the larger maps are so big that it slows down the gamepace of the server   it forces people  who normaly run&gun to sit and hide camp or snipe  and usaly ends up with people leaving constantly during   a map

Is there a way so that if these maps were in rotation they can be say 3 or 5 rounds and normal sized maps could be the 9 rounds and even some of the small maps hell make them best of 15. some of the real small maps are over in 10 minutes even going to a tie breaker round LOL. Or do all the maps on the rotation need to be a set match limit of the same number? If the match number can float depending on size of map then I would give it a go

Yea. It should be balanced and not overly big but the idea is to offer a little variety. A short map or two that doesnt benefit run&gun but a different play style. Something where its not just run-shoot-die-repeat.  Use more dispersed spawns instead of the forced S&D spawns. If you try and camp the enemy spawn one of them might outflank you and pick you off. Might work. Might not. But yea if there are too many people that actively refuse any map where they cant fully r&g... maybe they dont know how to play differently... then its going to be difficult at best.

 

 

I will add this. Assuming BO3 tools are cod4/5 style, and include the promised server files to run them anywhere, I have been considering freezetag for it but ***only*** if the very idea of that gametype was totally revisited. A clone of OW2 has zero interest for me. No sacred cows. Could be no tubes. Could be no bunnies. Maybe spray and pray is severely limited. Nor health so low that you die when your little finger gets shot off. That part is stupid and always has been. No hit icons. Zero complaints that something is different and it needs to be so-called *fixed*. If people want nothing but a clone someone else can do it. :lol:

mp_doowntown (I think that's the name) Make that one 0 rounds, pour some gasoline on it, and lit it on fire, open up the gates of hell and toss it in. It's not very often where each round didn't have one side struggling to get out of the weird spawn building with the revolving door. I guess it probably wouldn't be too bad if it was edited to increase the window size and to remove the revolving door, that's also an option.

Yea I hate that one also. However in that map I tend to use combat medic for the 12 seconds of spawn protection if that side is being pressed. Because its a relatively small map that 12 seconds is long enough to get out and nearer to one of the closer enemies trapping you and shooting him. Combat Medic + Lightweight it very useful. Include 3X emp and you could potentially get quite a few of your teammates to do the same thing and sneak up on them.

Lets make a map which is just two sides on a flat surface. Everyone spawns and starts shooting the the other side. Woah! That would be an awesome map, of utter chaos.

Yea those are basically UT style arena maps. But the most chaotic map I have ever seen in cod4 was 30 players in Shipment.  Wont work for ftag tho because of the need to defrost.

 

Unless........

 

Thrown into the ftag rotation mix are a few maps with 10-15 minutes of TDM.

But shipment has containers and other foliage. This would be like overtime, on a Line Of Sight spawn and shoot map. It will be chaos, and each round over in less than 2 minutes. I think I should get in to map making and make some crazy fun maps.

Probably less because everyone would throw grenade spam. Which is what people did on those 30-player matches. iirc it didnt have spawn protection.

 

But I suppose it would be fun to see just for shits and giggles.

 

edit: This would be mayhem. Throw in spawn protection with invisible players running around and who knows. Oh and dont forget... three streaks. :shock:

I totally agree with making different maps different "best of" round totals. Some of the larger maps that take 9 rounds can take over an hour....some of the smaller ones are done in 15 min....even if they go 9 rounds.

Get mp_arbor soak it in fuel and subject it to hellfire. Rinse and repeat untill it never appears in the map list ever again.

Is that the one where one side all spawns inside of the building? If so thats a map problem because it only includes a single spawn. Likely for TDM or other non-ftag games where you cant get stuck in it. However, I am pretty sure at one time an addition was included in the mod that moved that spawn point outside after the map was loaded. So it would balance out both sides with everybody spawning in the open.

 

In any case, a map I was messing around with for a best of 5 victory requirement is agx contra. A nicely done map but certainly large and not so much CQ but could work for a short match.

Yes thats the one, it has a million frikken trees too. Everytime it comes on the teams have a wee moan. Its a bitch to see anything lol. On the other note, I quite like the building spawn as its a funny cluster fuck when the whole team gets trapped in there :lol:

Trees are good for the environment. They are also good because the enemy can sneak up on you and go "boo!" if you arent careful. Not everything has to take place in the desert or grass.

Agx_contra sounds good! Not sure if you have access to many of the other agx maps, I remember some of them were good. I think another one I am thinking of that might be good for the lower round limit was agx_cz. I thought the round limit worked well on brkout_v2, but I love that map anyway  :lol: A few others that come to mind are citi_hotel, gb_stalemate, rescue, metro, railyard, renan_bridge4, dam, sbase, sconsegrad, chernobyl, twin2, and village_s. That was a few more than I intended, but just trying to be helpful, feel free to ignore me  :lol:

Thanks for the suggestions. I remember the names of all of those but cannot recall what all of them are. rd3 is another. But its a pretty big map.

 

edit: Yup I see a few good suggestions there. However a few are also not compatible with the mod due to 'out of memory' errors. Often many big maps just have too much in the way of complex terrain that take up a lot of memory. That or also some complex custom models. Or I should say, the max memory the game engine can handle for something designed in 2007.

I like a good mix of small and large maps please.... Having played on the servers a fair bit i have seen some small maps empty the servers quicker than the large ones.. Variety is the spice of life!!!!
