On the plus side, new build fired right up & everything worked perfectly. Only error was having to go into bios to reset date & time. Kloppix booted her up, got on the internet immediately, saved everything off the old drive, good to go. Booted into Win7 32bit, chipset wasn't recognized, no internet, no ethernet drivers, heck with that. Did a clean install of Win7 64 bit, installed drivers, and was off and rolling.

Typed in my key (oem) no good. Pulled out my copy of win 10 (w/key) operating system has expired, use repair disk or usb rescue.

Living & learning. Can't reuse an oem key on a new motherboard, and oem versions of windows can't be used to change versions (win7 32 pro to win7 64 pro). If you did install win10 from their upgrade offer, it ain't going onto a new build, at least not w/out juggling dates & times in BIOS.

Looks like purchasing a new key is my option for today.

There is an alternative....LINUX !! But, no games are  programed for it except for server use.

Agreed Magnus, booted w/knoppix (spelled it wrong earlier) and would love to build a kernel and make Linux my main operating system. But, I wanna kill people on WAW, and Linux isn't useful for 3rd person shooters.

most times if you install without the key and then try and activate later. If you use the phone in option (extremely slow) activation it will give you a new key to use 9 out of 10 times

I am with magnus debain linux is free and now some mainstream video drivers are available for linux. its just the game devs themselves that wont bother to write for linux because its harder and less money. its always money causing issues.

Broken windows will be a subscription in the near future..The os your never done paying for good luck with that

We'll, I reloaded win7 64bit. Gonna call MS & see if they will offer me a key, before I load all the drivers. Sucks, but it's their game.

post-389-0-96963500-1489944455_thumb.jpgTheLastColdBeer       the new motherboard is TA970 Biostar ?

Note: that model has 2 revisions  when getting bios updates make sure you know what REV. x.xx of motherboard you got before any updating  also drivers may be effected  for  Biostar used different vendor's and kept same model  name

people get confused with revision and version,  don't get caught not known the difference and make a new door stop by updating/flashing the wrong bios file to MB making it DOA on restart

once you know your MB REV  then get the all the current drivers and  bios on to a flash drive  to load on windows

install option

Activated. Spent about 35 minutes on the phone w/MS, including allowing a remote assistant look over my system. Bryan was cool, told him to go ahead, nothing was on this machine yet, lol. Handed over the key to win10, but he said it had expired, no go.

KC, never had to flash bios yet. Unless an upgrade is absolutely necessary, don't plan on trying. This thing is running fine, so off we go reloading games.

The Steam folks have tried, SteamBox is linux based.

and here is where you can download SteamOS to install on your own hardware: http://store.steampowered.com/steamos/buildyourown
