A strange issue popped up with my car in the last few weeks. The 'safety' trip on the gas hoses go off every so often. I never smell gas or anything like that and if I am careful with how far I pull the lever, say 1/2 way, then I can get gas in the tank. Any ideas on what would cause this? Awards

Take the nossle out and point it straight down and see if a few drops come out when you do that. There is a small tube along with the fill nozzle that sense when the tank is full. People that top off after it clicks force fluid up into that tube causing it to trip the nozzle off thinking the tank is full. May have to shake it a little bit too Awards

Didnt seem as tricky however that time. If its a repair job I hope its not something too expensive. Hope another problem didnt rear its ugly head but the car died a couple times starting it up. Wasnt getting enough gas I suppose since it was also idling very low. Eventually worked itself out, I think, since after that I didnt notice any problems. I hope it was just the gas from the other station entering the system. Awards

There is a little floating check ball in the fill tube that could possibly be hanging up due to corrosion inside the tube. You could possibly tap on the tube with a block of wood (with the fuel cap off of course) or stick a piece of stiff wire down the tube and see if it dislodges the ball. It should work then. I don't think you are from Minnesota otherwise I'd come take a look myself. Good luck brother!! Awards
