Calling all musicians new and old !!

Recommended Posts

Salutations to all !!

A post I did earlier on what got you started playing your particular instrument a band,a song a person etc.....and asked for some stories and received some good ones from Stormcrow and Wyld Penguin and others ...it was cool to hear the stories and I would like to hear more.

then Stormcrow posted him jammin' to MONSTER TRUCK !!  it was cool to watch ...so I had an idea to have people either post a video or a recording of some kind,Hell I post videos that I filmed with my phone !! so that works too or an MP3 like I am going to do, so I hope it works because anyone who knows me, knows I am lost when it comes to PC's .I'm learning though. Oh, btw, all the guitars ,bass, and drums were all done on my PC by me (so if I can do this).... I played everything but was recorded through my PC with programs for the drums (EZDRUMMER2) and (Positive Grid Amp Bias 2 for my guitar tones and Bass tones ).I use my real amp as well but not on this one, it's a ...What I cal,l a finished 1st run demo, all the parts are what they will be except for the solos. That is what this track is for,for solo ideas. I just hit record and play......listen....take the parts out I like or where it works in the song......the real solo will only be less than 30 seconds I believe.....lol...but I didn't want to bore you with just a dry run track with no vocals and very little solos...oh yeah dry run, means, no nothing, on anything...no compression on drums or bass no EQ no effects except some reverb on lead and rhythm guitar tracks, cymbals are not how I want them blah blah blah ......What I want, is any musician beginner or veteran or weekend player to porch jammer I don;t care how good or bad you are, this isn't a pissing contest, sorry woman for the language....  So let's see or hear you .jammin' to a favorite song or an original, anything !!

I'll start it off by hanging my ..Uh hum.....out there for all to hear...I normally don't like or do this..........so here it is...the eventual name of the song will be "when is it my turn?" :guitar:

Good on you I play but not ready for prime time :0 Can't sing can't dance but I can some times keep a beat. Acoustic guitar 6 and 12 string.

It doesn't matter how good you are,I said that....just the fact you play an instrument is great,do you have some favorite songs you like to play or have you written anything? I would like to think of this post as  music sharing forum between musicians with no judgements...are you kidding me? there are so many guitar players out there that are better than me technically it's not funny...just check out You tube ....this is all fun and sharing stuff. So let's hear it people.. Feel free to comment too, even if you are not a player but just a music listener.C'mon Bob and everyone else....just do it !!  :guitar:

That's pretty badass, Street!  I need to get some software so that I can start recording my singing via my pc.  I've been checking some things out, and will also be getting a good mic for that.  Just to let you know, there is a teamspeak channel that I had created for jamming and music called Melodious Bliss.  If you see people on there, chances are we are playing/singing/listening to some sort of music, so feel free to join us!

Im on all instruments.  Vocals done by me, and a few friends.   Some of this stuff is old and pretty rough !!!   Also let me know if the Soundcloud app stutters during playback.   The player stutters on my end, but it could be my browser.

I liked it Mike B.You sound good.👍😎

Thanks.   I was trying to get a jam session together and have a few people come down (Street being one).  But life threw some curve-balls at us the past few months.  My father fell ill and passed and other health issues with other family members.   Been a trying few months.   I hope things have settled around here (knock on wood).   But I am not holding my breath.

@Streetcleaner, any suggestions or advice is welcome......I'm just getting into recording, so I don't know all that much yet :)

Through out the years I have used several DAW's.   Cubase, Pro-Tools, Reaper, Tracktion, Studio One and Waveform.   I mainly use Waveform and Studio One now.  As far as an easy to learn DAW, then Tracktion 7 is a good choice.  Tracktion 7 is an older version of Waveform that is free.    https://www.tracktion.com/products/t7-daw

Presonus Studio One, which is a great DAW, is a little harder to navigate, but still user friendly.  Reaper (i use sometimes) is also a good inexpensive DAW.  Not as user friendly as the others, but the cost is good.   As far as Mics go,  you cant beat the old Shure SM57 and 58 workhorse mics.  Plus you need an audio interface to get your music into the pc.  Now with the Presonus interfaces you get a copy of the daw Studio One Lite which will do just fine.    Like the Presonus 26C or 26 https://www.presonus.com/products/Studio-Series-USB-Interfaces .  Inexpensive and good sound.  So get a Presonus interface, one Shure SM57 and one Shure SM58, two mic cables and download Tracktion 7 or use the free version of Studio One that comes with the Presonus interface.   And start messing around !!!

I really like Reaper and just want to get acclimated to the whole DAW thing but plan on getting Studio One later my good friend uses that and Focusrite as his interface and my other one uses Reaper who also uses Presonus as his audio interface....I use Focusrite 2i4 as my audio interface and love it !! just shop around and as far as mics go I have a Shure 57 and a 58 and getting a MD 421 but if you just have a guita,r no amp....you can get what I have for guitar tones and bass and go directly into your DAW...the mp3 I did was just that. It's not the same as my real rig but pretty close....but I can do everything at night, late with headphones and not wake anyone up....sweet !! I'll let you know about the vocal thing.

I'm happy to see the number of peeps coming in and checking out some of the musicians that are XI and others that are part of this website...but not a lot of comments...that's okay, but.........I know there are more people out there with talent.......Btw anybody who owns a Les Paul and or a Fender Twin is definitely on the list !!  MikeB  and the fact that Spartacus gave us that solo uh...solo I heard no backing...was I supposed to play the song and sync it up? either way, the tone was on and the solo sounded good ,so thx for sharing that with us Spartacus. You guys and gals can do what Stormcrow did and jam along with the song...and if you have live footage of you out with your band, that's like gold !! show us !! So,don't make me name names, you know who you are and like I said before, you don't need a studio like MikeB or  PC studio software like me....I post video's with my freakin ' phone people, I just did the mp3 because I just learned how to create it with my DAW (digital audio workstation)and the fact it sounds better because it's straight from my PC And Reaper and you don't have to look at me..haha....  I do have to say that Reaper is a really easy DAW to use (If I can figure it out...they have tons of great tutorials on Youtube ) also ,it's cheaper than most $60 and they give you 60 days free to evaluate before you buy it.

In closing........JUST DO IT !!   :guitar:

all about the enjoyment of playing right

Not quite its fun true but I do it to help stave off arthritis in my hands. It also really helps with fighting  alzheimer . The fun side is playing a song ya really love. My rule is twenty campfire songs with a little flare though.

P.S. I'm trying to find some time to record a bit I will add it when I do :0
