I have the M5A99FX it's currently being RMAed for the 2nd time in 1 month. It's fast as heck but the build quality is very poor.1st time the board would not power up.Sent it in and got it back and it worked very well for 1 1/2 weeks until the southbridge chip overheated and burnt out.Sent it in again and I'm now waiting for the replacement board which should be here Wednesday.

I was going to get the Sabertooth board but the M5A99FX was on sale for $139.95 But after reading the reviews and such I'm glad I didn't.There were about 50 of them on Ebay that are burnt up but those were all Rev.1.01 boards so they may have fixed the problem with the VR modules.

Crosshair board is a very good board with Top notch build quality and components.

M5A99FX

DDR3 2133(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066

Realtek ALC892 Audio

Realtek 8111F Lan

4 (x16, x16, x4, x4) Pcie slots

Sabertooth

DDR3 1866/1600/1333/1066

Realtek ALC892 Audio

Realtek 8111F Lan

3 (dual x16 or x16, x8, x8) True Dual x16 pcie

Crosshair

DDR3 2400(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/2000(O.C.)/1800(O.C.)/1600/1333/1066

Supreme FX III Audio

Intel®, 1 x Gigabit LAN

3 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (dual x16 or x16/x8/x8) 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode) 2 x PCIe 2.0 x1

3 Way SLI/CrossFireX

I would get the Crosshair Just because I HATE Realtek Audio and Lan.And if you ever want to pop a cheap DX11 Nvidia card in with an ATI card you can do it.This enables Nvidia accelerated PhysX.This typically results in a smoother gaming experience and additional visual effects.

I've done 2 different gaming rig builds using ASUS Crosshair mobo's. One was the Formula IV, and the other a Formula V. As said earlier, the construction and build quality is top notch. I have never had one seconds trouble with either crosshair mobo and have been extremely impressed with the performance. They are a bit pricey, but my Formula IV has been clicking right along for 3 years now without a hiccup in my own gaming rig. The Formula V is in BB's rig, and performs very nicely for 6+ months now. I've not owned a Sabertooth, so I can't speak to it, but it's an ASUS mid/upper end board so you probably can't go wrong. I started to put that into BB's rig when I built it, but I had such good performance from the Formula IV that I decided to shell out the extra bucks on a mobo I felt I knew would perform well and last.

When you compare the two, you get better audio with the Crosshair, and better over clock ability and a wider range of the higher end (faster) ram that you can use. If you are not into overclocking and such, the sabertooth (at least on paper) is a great board for the price. I'm just stuck on the crosshair because I know it performs very well. If you need to save 50 bucks, the sabertooth sounds pretty good.

...and on a side note.. I originally had 2 Radeon HD 5870 2GB vid cards in CrossFire in my own gaming rig. To save money when I built BB's, I pulled one out of mine and put in hers. I had originally planned to eventually upgrade my vid cards and stick the second 5870 in her rig. However, I saw NO decreased gaming performance in day to day play by going with one card. I'm sure that if I ran a high end performance app my score would be lower.. but who cares about what your performance score is if your real-world gaming performance isn't affected. Crossfire and SLi are nice, but I've not seen where it's necessary with the higher end vid cards that they are putting out today. Maybe I would if I played more graphically intense games.

doing the dual vid card scene is for large screen and better eye candy and need a good PSU to support it

correct on todays top cards as single

There are very few games out that turely support DX11.DX10 is good enough atleast for now.If you don't care about the warrenty on your cards you can take a pair of snips and cut the fan grate out on the back of the card.It will alow it to cool much better.

I just got my Open box ASUS Crosshair V Formula Z motherboard this afternoon.I'm working to get it stuffed in the case now.WOW is there a LOT of neat stuff on this board.I may have to make use of the V-Mod ports and see how high I can clock this AMD FX 8350.I had it up to 4.7ghz on the ASUS M5A99FX before the board decided to eat it's self.

I picked up an AMD FX 8320 3.5ghz 8 core CPU off of Ebay for $125 shipped to upgrade the AMD Phenom II X4 965 that I had in it.And sold the Phenom ii on ebay for $91.00 so that worked out pretty good.

I have the FX 8320 OCed to 4.2 ghz on an ASUS M5A97 motherboard. This is the one that I've been gaming on.So now you know why my gaming has improved a bit the last couple of days. Sorry Angel lol

Oh it's 4:20 btw

Oh got ya.

If you set your Case cooling fans to create a Possitive pressure environment it will cool better and you'll have less dust build up in your case.

I have 3 120mm fans pushing air IN and 2 pulling heat out.

2 on the side and 1 in the front pushing and 1 on the top and the power supply on the bottom pulling air out.

If you set it up for Negitive air flow it will pull air and dust through your CD drives and every other little hole.

idk motherboard brands IMO anymore are the same no matter what. ur going to have your good ones and bad ones. everyone told me MSI is horrible. well 3 years later not a single issue. 790Fx-gd70 board. supports 2-16x crossfire and 4 cards total. 2133 memory downfall now is Sata 6.0 and cpu support is limited to 6 core Phenom II which seems to be more then powerful to play any game with little issues. what ever u build memory speed has been my big factor. went from 1333 memory to 2133 and holy crap. gaining 20-80 fps depending on the game. what ever you build figure out your "Bottle neck" and figure it out. mine now is my video card but so tapped out on money from school this and that.. so i've neglected that issue.

basically you get what you pay for, almost all brands have their inexpensive consumer lines, and their hardcore best of the best architecture line.

4890 friend had 3 of them he used HIS ice q4 cards and they ran really cool. Amd heat issue is drivers. if u run Msi afterburner or just manually adjust the fan speed they dont run that bad. but dont run the coolers that have 2 fans or a centered single fan. they are the ones that run hot.

the stock xfx single fan design is the reason for their heat. once i put the artic cooler on they pulled down to comfortable temps no afterburner needed

Yes but i've also had few cheaper ones in my day and other expensive ones. so idk everyone had different issues. foxconn i think was one of my first with a P4 system. it just dumbed speeds down to 33mhz for memory and hard drive. so i went to amd after my 4th board going bad. on intel setup. since i've had biostar gx790 onboard video quit on that which i could care less about. and that had nothing to do with the quality. that was drunk night had side off my computer and room mates were playing with airsoft guns. and beer + airsoft = dented case and a wet motherboard.

i have a xfx 5770 single fan card. runs up to 75C before the fan speed will even go over 30% usage. now that i use MSI afterburner i can make the fan speed go up fo different temps i can get my card to max out @ 55C on hours of gaming. and overclocked.
